My 2004 TB got somes 4x4 pbs...

yesterday i removed my 4x4 front lock and founded that the shifting fork was broken in 2...

( i did'nt saw that it was in 4x4 auto position and when the light came green i lost traction on the ice at the rear diff cosing the front lock to engage with the rear sliding at some mph and the front sitting on clean part of the road)
... the sound looklike trying to pass the first gear without clutch on a manual car.....

was that happened to somewone other than me?
all automatic stuf suck.... why do they don't make manual trany / manual transfercase for TB? is there a trany/flywheel that bolt to the I6 4.2?
will it be possible to make the engine work correctly with the stoc ECM without the auto trany connected?

thx in advance and sry for my bad english!

Is it in warranty? It doesn't sound like you abused it.

Because the GM marketing department didn't design the TB/Envoy for people who wanted to shift by hand. It's not an off-road enthusiast car. Too many parts are custom, and there are few aftermarket suppliers when the market is small.

Yep the TB/VOY is not meant for the owner/operator that would choose to manually engage a 4x4 system or lock in hubs.

To that point, it should not have failed when it did. If you have warranty, go for it. If you don't, go for it anyway. The point of the auto is to disengage if in a bind. It is not a full lock system anyway... even in 4-lo.

Well - that is a tough one. Most stealership I have dealt with pretty much play the void-warranty card every chance they get. And cracking your t-case in half will give them cause. Since you have it done pretty much done, give yourself a pat on the back and just finish it.

I agree. Didn't know you had so many miles. What is the black gunk in the case? Looks like roasted grease, not differential fluid.

Wow! I've never seen a front axle disconnect fork break like that! Even on part time 4x4's with a full 50/50 split. Usually the fork will try to actuate X amount of times & if no go per a limit switch, it fails open and your 4x4 trouble light will come on. The fork should see any load once engaged. Your typical weak link in these systems is the front half shafts.

I would recommend you get some brake cleaning fluid and an old rag and hose that gunk out of there. Go back with some fresh grease. No time like the present. Good work by the way.

My trailblazer doesn't lke to go into 4hi or 4lo sometimes (it likes the auto mode, though). It always takes a good 5 or 10seconds of heart stopping waiting before the little LED engages- a few of those times I was getting a little worried because I really needed 4x4 then. The good thing is that it has only failed once- and that was the switch and that was replaced by warranty. I would be supremely pissed if it broke anytime soon. I only use 4x4 when I have too, and I have followed all service requirements.

A good rule of thumb with all electronic transfer case vehicles: don't use the teenager method of "as far as you can in 2wd". Make sure your ride is in 4hi before you go in. Not as fun, but it will save you worries later.

I would love a manual transfer case- or at least a cool looking shift on the fly with an electronic TC. Sequoia and Liberty have them- and they are not "off road masters" by any means. The shifters look so cool- I loved those pre 2003 4 runners with them.

I am glad yours is fixed.

Anyone else here think a shift on the fly instead of push button or rotary knob would look much better?
