Hey all, like I have posted in a previous tread, I am looking to get a TBSS, and havent actually messed with one yet, but am looking at getting one. Do you think it is possible to remove the rear air springs setup and replace ith conventional coil springs? I would do this because I am seriously considering making this a pretty quick street strip truck, with some boost in its future. All the weigh and complexity in the vehicle I could lose, I wouldnt mind. Thanks!!

Anything is possible with enough money.

Well, since the SS uses the larger axle, you can't just swap in the smaller axle without the airbags from the I6 and expect to have any durability. I would think about keeping the air bag setup, and just modify it so you can balance the rear suspension for balanced traction off the line. Then just equalize the bags for street use.

I basically meant using the original axle and putting in a normal spring. I'll figure it out....

i don't think it can be done. If u don't want to put alot of $ into it!

Well, I dont see how I could put alot of money into it, all I can imagine I might need is the upper and lower spring mount from a normal TB and weld them in their place in the SS. When you can do your own work, there is a considerable amount of money saved!! Then removing the autoride system shouldnt be much more than stripping the interior and getting the compressor, lines, control module, and various wiring....

:iagree: i think it is very doable. just don't think anyone with autoride has looked into doing it.

I don't get why you want to remove the auto-leveling suspension. The air springs are lighter than coils although with the aircompressor it is probably a wash. As far as complexity the air compressor operates without any other connection to the rest of the vehicle, besides the sensors and power.
To answer your question though, you can remove the air springs and just add in coils. There are currently no coils with the proper rate and check height to match the front springs.
Good Luck

Yeah, I wasnt wondering of I could remove the air setup, I know I can, I just was wondering if anybody had considered it. Yes, I can see the springs would be heavier than the air setup, but like you said, the compressor negates that. I wasnt looking for a "lighter" setup really more like a less complex setup. But as I got to looking over a TBSS this past weekend, I figure the ride would be compromised if not matched correctly, and really, like you stated the sytem isnt really integrated into the others in the vehicle, so I think I will wait to de-autoride the truck until it decides to **** on me.Happy trails!!
