View Full Version : 2WD LT or 4WD LS

With the current sale going on, I've been shopping for a new TB. Ideally, I would buy a 4WD LT and be completely happy, but I can only afford either a 2WD LT 1SD (which has the locking diff) or a 4WD LS 1SB. Obviously, the LT has the nicer options but the 4WD would perform better in the Winter. I do plan to use the truck in the snow since we do some snowmobiling in Northern Wisconsin. I'm having a very hard time deciding between the nicer bells and whistles of the LT that would get used year-round versus the 4WD that would get used mainly during one season. I would appreciate any comments you guys could offer.

Welcome to the forum, Alkaholik
Tough decision. If in the snow any at all, you will appreciate the 4X4. The LT will have some extras you will enjoy on a daily basis. Have you shopped other dealers for a 4X4 LT.? With the GMS to all pricing this month some are more willing to deal than others. :m2:

You may only use the 4x4 during one season but when you need it and do not have it, that will suck. Plus, there are plenty of aftermarket add-ons youcould had if you want bells and whistles. Adding 4-wheel drive is not feasible. I say get the 4x4 and add bells and whistles aftermarket.

For me there would be no second thought, it would be the 4x4, but that's me. I agree you can always add bells and whistles.

Hands down, 4wd. Better resale, and I look at it like a condom, better to have it and not use it, than not have it and need it. :D

In my neck of the woods, it is difficult to find a 4x2....All the boys up in CNY state(north of Syracuse and Utica) haul sleds all over the place, and to me, that means 4WD is a no-brainer.I recommend that you shop around a little like a lot of us did, and soon you will find the truck of your liking, patience is a virtue....Definitely a 4WD for those snowy Wisconsin snowmobile trips, though!!!! Happy Hunting!!! Let us know what you ended up buying... :)

Another vote for 4x4 here. I won't ever own another 2wd vehicle.

4X4 is definately the way to go. The locking diff. helps, but here in Seattle I went skiing at Mt. Baker through the switchbacks, and the locking diff didnt save me from the snow. I had to put it in 4WD High after spinning around a turn to avoid doing it again. I think you are better off getting the base options on an LS with the 4X4 and then do as the others have suggested, upgrading the things you really want with high-quality aftermarket parts. It will also with making the truck "yours", as corny as that sounds. :D
Please tell us your final decision when you have your truck,

I was leaning toward the 4x4 before, but now I have no doubt that's what I'm going to get. I found an LS with a sunroof, which at least gives me one of the nicer options. I definitely plan to add aftermarket parts, so the LS makes even more sense. I'm headed to the dealer next week, so I'll let you know what I end up with :D
Thank you all for your input.

Go with the 4X4...Even with the nicer amenities on the LT you'd still have a hole covered up with tacky (IMO) plastic cover where the 4X4 switch would be :m2:

On my LT there is the traction control button in that spot, not the plastic cover thingee. Just incase I want to do some drift racing i guess...

It's the 4x4 with the LT1 package. It also has the sun roof. I managed to talk the sales guy down a little and he gave me a $500 friends and family discount, which made it a little more affordable. Out the door (taxes, tag, registration, everything) for about $27,500. The MSRP was $33,500 without all of that, so I probably saved about $8,000.
I really like the color. You can't really see it in the pictures, but it has a black and gray pinstripe that give it a little bit of a unique look.
