Has anyone put taller gears in? I'm looking at buying a 2WD, but I do a lot of freeway, and would like to see lower rpms at freeway speeds. If it's been done, what's involved in recalibrating the speedo?
You'd have to get into the computer to correct for any gear changes, either with the upcoming Predator tuner (which I am assuming will have this ability), with HP Tuners or EFI Live, or with a tune from one of the sponsors here, like Vector Motorsports.
I think the perfect combination for a mostly highway-driven SS would be 3.42 gears coupled with a 3200 RPM or greater torque converter. That way, you could get your killer acceleration off the line with the converter, but still get good RPM's on the freeway when the 3.42's lockup.
