 Has anyone installed a good (as in made for auto audio installs) 12V cable from the battery to the inside of their vehicle? With that cover over the battery I was wondering is there even enough room? Do you have to drill holes through the firewall or is there some other kind of way? I ask because I am using that module under the passenger side rear set, but I think I should do it the proper way.

Base 2005 TB LS non bose & no factory amps anywhere inside.

What are wanting to run with the cable? It may not be necessary for youto go through the hassle. Unless you are running amps then it is rarely necessary for you to go out to the battery. A perfectly safe and reliable place to get 12+ from is the ignition harness:

There is a RED(40A) and a RED/WHITE(40A) wire in the ingnition harness underneath the dash near the steering column that you can tap into without any problems.

I have uploaded wiring diagrams to the Admin who has made a home for them in the resources section off this site:

You could also probably hook into that terminal by the fuse box under the rear seat. :m2:

Well, instead of hooking it up directly to my battery, I took the cover off of the fuse box and connected it to the wire that comes from the battery.

In my last car I connected my amp wire directly from my battery and it formed a bunch of corrosion so I decided against it.

A warning though, my 500 watt alpine amp caused some headlamp and dashboard light dimming until I added a .5F cap, everything is fine now...

.. I need to clean up a little in there :undecided

I run my cable down the underside of the car and drilled a hole into the storage bin. I never liked having a bump in my carpet from a 4 gauge wire run. I've never seen anyone else do this, theres probably a safety concern if you get in some sort of an accident and the cable gets shorted near the gas tank. But I did it this way in my old Blazer; I'm banking on the fuse doing its job if worse comes to worse.

Thank you all for the replies! :) I guess I will go with the under the dash option. I'm way to scared to take a drill to my TB. You got sum cojonnes man!!

02EnvoySLE Guy are you talking about the box under the passenger side rear seat? I thought that was the BCM? I did not see any fuses there.

I installed my amp a few weeks ago, I used the positive lead that Charlie was talking about under the driver's side rear seat at the fuse box. I have an 800 watt amplifier and a 1F Cap inline. I have had no problems at all, no dimming, no fuse problems or anything. I even tapped the remote wire into the ignition fuse in that same box so that the amp goes off with the key, which makes sense, if your listening to the radio with the truck off, you won't run down the battery with the amp. That same fuse has a wire runnung through the headliner to the radar detector.

Nope, it's this one under the drivers side seat:

The thick red cable. Just pull the cover off, un-do the nut, slip on the connector for your amps, tighten everything down and re-cover. :m2:

I just want to make sure what you are installing. If it is Amps, then do not use the ignition harness wires. Just as my post stated, unless you are installing amps, you can use the wires under the dash. The battery post under the rear seat is a great place to hook up an amp as stated above as long as it is not a high power amp that would require a 4 gauge wire.

Oh no, it is just a 50W (RMS is probably 20W) 8" paper bazooka I picked up at Circuit City for 99$. With the graet pictures that 02EnvoySLE Guy provided, I'll probably just go there ;)

I think it's always on since it's a direct wire to the battery, there are no switches or relays to make it a switched circuit. :m2:

Correct!! It is always hot (on). So remember that when hooking up your wires, once you make the connection, you will be on!!

One of my friends also has a tb and he went off the power under the rear seat. word to wise, be very carefull with that stuff. He decided to go that route and fried the delphi system that runs through there. he also screwed up some of the other components that run off that fuse pannel. not sure how or what he did, but when i asked him about how he ran his amps he said DONT GO OFF OF THAT BOX. I went right to the battery. there is a grommet to the upper left of the steering col that you can pop a 4awg cable through. :m2: :m2: :m2: :m2:

I wonder how he "fried it" I bet when he hooked up to the power wire he let it touch ground before he was ready and smoked his system. There is plenty of power there and if he was using the correct fuse setup then it would not have happened.

Agreed -- that location is no more or less safe than any other power source if it's wired up properly. :m2:

Yes it is. As a matter of fact, I have my little 8" (paper) bazooka connected to that. Pics will be forthcoming.

I wrapped the wire around the box so that I could close the cover. There is an opening on the "far side"

All right, how do I actually inline a pic to this thread?

EDIT: Thanks JimmyJam
In my text above, "far side" should say "left side as you look at my pic"

when you go to the gallery, right click on the picture and click properties, and use that URL. that should work. using the "link" the picture points to doesn't work. the url for this picture is http://gallery.trailvoy.com/data/500/small_1.jpg

I did exacly what jimmyjam did, but I went to the molding and stuffed it under there all the way to the back, and then it hooks right to my Cap.
