Well our department which is in a very rural community, main town is 600-700 people with who knows how many in the rural communities. Last week we got word that we are in for a grant of $94,000 to get 14 new SCBAs, three additional masks, and a new comprssor to fill the bottles. WOOHOO for us! Now we get to listen to all the salesmen and try to decide what we want. Just curious what everyone had and their likes and dislikes,

We have been very fortunate in the past three years, received $100,000 for a new station, $150,000 for a new pumper, and now this grant for SCBAs. I have to encourage anyone that can to apply for these grants as I know sometimes the money ends up going back because no one applies. It is always worth a shot! Stay safe

We got a few years ago for 20 new scbas and compresser, and fill station in rescue. We went with MSA Fire hawk. I really liked them for the little I got to use them. They have digital and antalog guages. Built in passs device which turns on as soon as the bottle turned on. Digital lights in mask that let you know what how much time also. Heck it evens reads how much air you are using and calculates how long you have befor your bottle goes empty. The voice amp for the mask is great too. It sounds like you are talking to someone right beside you rather than the muffled sound you get tring to talk though a mask.

Last year we got a custom build class A engine built by Crimson. It seems once you get one grant they are eaiser to get.

We got the whole talk from Scott the other night on their newest packs. Pretty sweet if you ask me, I love how all the weight is moved on to your hips and not on your shoulders. We are looking at getting what they call the pack tracker which actually monitors all the pass devices that are active and if one starts to go off the tracking monitor actually goes off and directs you to where that pass device is. Really cool stuff, we got to run around outside and play with it too! We are moving up from very old MSA's that have the old "elephant tubes" as we call them. So nice to just click the hose to the mask and you are on air. Can't wait to see what else we get to play with from other vendors. Our new truck should be done in November so pictures will be coming.

we use SCOTT and they get the job done, we have older ones that are the basic then ones with the built in pass alarm an ones with the heads up display and do the communicator thing, one thing i dont like about the heads up display units are is there is a wire that is over one of the shoulder straps which is in a very bad spot and gets ripped out easily, and once its ripped off the pack goes out of service, as far as the communicator, weve had it for i think 3-4 years now, have NEVER used it, its not that great honestly.... and damn i wish we could get some grant money like that.....

Just got word from our chief last night that we will be getting 24 new MSA firehawks by the first of november. Supposed to be the 30min CF bottles. It'll be a nice upgrade from the old scott packs we have now! These new ones are so much lighter than the old scott's!

We use the SCOTT 4.5's we still have the old school ones in service from the 90's and we also have the new ones with the integrated pass, I prefer the old ones over the new ones, because the alligator clips are the best, they never ease up, as opposed to the new ones.
