My brother went to swap my rotors and pads and found that my wheel has a half inch of play in and out when teh caliper is removed.
He tells me I either need side gears on the diff or new bearings in the axle. Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?
Truck going in tomorrow to a reputable driveline shop.

I think 1/4" is typical. The axles are held in by c-clips inside the diff, and if they were gone, the axle would slide right out (if it weren't for the caliper). This happened to me after a grenaded locker in my PREVIOUS diff.
The professional shop will know if what you have is reasonable or not. I can't find the spec in the shop manual for some odd reason.
I took the truck in to the stealer, told them what the issues were. They called me back 8 hours later claiming they couldn't find the problem ...but the new rear rotors seem to have fixed it all.
I suspect they opened the diff and fixed their mistake ...but I guess we'll never know for sure...
In any case it's driving like brand new and a good detail job has it looking that way too. =)
