This might be a retarded idea, but theoretically I think it'd work. Here's the idea..

If I were to buy 2 newer horns from vehicles that were totaled or just OEM parts, wire them to a Wig-Wag flasher and mount them, would that not work for a dual-tone horn? I figure it'd be cheap enough with wig-wag relay's being around $30, and horns are probably half that if I look in the right place.. if anything it'd just be one more tone to clear an intersection.

Input please. :thx

(for those thinking I'm trying to be a storm chaser whacker, I'm not, just beginning to piece together a First Response setup for my truck)

I'm not sure about that, as far as the legality... would alternating horns be considered a siren? Think, European Hi-Lo

I would check out the legallity as well, but if it's an option in your area, it could be a cheap traffic clearing device

I to think that would be illegal.

It'd be illegal if it were on a licensed emergency first response vehicle?

Ah, ok. I see what you're saying, the hi-lo tones aren't legal in all areas? Here in KS they're pretty darn lenient regarding POV's. Everybody here can pretty much run whatever they want. A few guys have full sized r/b bars (some form of a lightbar is required), windshield LED's and sirens are allowed.

I'll just check with the Chief and see what the specifics of the laws are.

If the hi-lo is allowed, that'd make a great intersection clearing tone :p

Just get a Whelen Howler, Whelen was pushing that to our local PD/SO fleet services division and brought in a demo car. They parked it at the front door of the police department It was so low and vibrated so much it rattled a pipe loose in the fire sprinkler system just inside the front doors.
