I want to be able to buy a pair of side mirror backs, perferrably from a Buick Ranier due to them already being smooth so I can paint them white to match my truck. I dont really want to have to buy the entire mirror assembly, I am just looking for the part number. OR, if someone has a set of ones around, please let me know. If they are painted white, even better! If not, no big deal.

It would be nice if the mirror back was serviced separately and had its own part number. I had to bite the bullet and buy Rainier mirrors to get the smooth backs. (Sold my OEMs for a decent price, as they had the turn signals in them). Smooth backs are also found on NF TB's, some Olds Bravadas, and now the Envoy Denalis. I think the Saabs also have them. :m2:

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about selling my OEM mirrors, but I just modded them with the turn signals, and I dont think the buyer would really like that too much if I sold them on ebay. :( I might be able to buy some mirrors with the smooth backs, takes the backs off, and sell them again on ebay. I think it would be too much work for what its worth.

Has anyone sanded down their mirror backs to get them smooth enough to look good with paint on them. I saw on another website that the Webmaster there sanded down his mirror backs and used duplicolor to get them to look like his truck. I wonder how hard this would be, as I have never done any body work to a car yet. For them, I would be OK spray painting them w/duplicolor, so paint isnt an issue, just what is(are) the best thing(s) to use to sand down the mirror backs to do something like this?

Thanks for all the responses guys, but I wont be able to read them or reply for a few weeks  due to my vacation in Germany :D . Have a good month of June!!

Good luck on your project. BTW, they have computers in Germany, so you can check in here once in a while. Have a great summer trip. :D
