I am attempting to fabricate a cold air intake using Marine exhaust 3.5 ID like I have done on my 99 ss and 00 ss. I have done some research and looks to be the easiset way to eliminate the silencers, ridge rubber and least expensive way. It also can be done keeping a good look as well. I am heading to the Marine Motorsprts store this weekend to get the tubing so I will keep everyone aprised as to my results

So, when are you going to get a tune so you can actually safely run your SS with a CAI?:D

why would you need a tune to run a CAI?? companies have sold tens of thousands over the years, have you ever heard of a failure related to an install of a CAI??

Because these trucks can run close to STOI at the top of a gear without one.

Except when you are talking about an SS, the MAF neckdown when removed screws the air/fuel settings up like Chris has said numerous times before. If you replace the entire OE CAI with a 3" without any neckdown, you will need a tune otherwise you will be really lean on the top of the RPM band. PM Chris to check this if ya want.

So that is when the fuel is burned completely correct? Isnt that a good thing?

Dang it, beat me by like a minute guys!

It is a good thing, to a point, but then you start to get into the area which problems can easily occur and I dont think you want to replace an LS2 with less than 5K on it because you put a CAI and didnt tune it. And, the dealer wouldnt replace it because it was your own fault it blew up.:duh:

At cruise yes in a high RPM high load high timing situation, NO! LOL

Wouldn't this be the same for the 99 SS I ran ran for 60000 plus miles no problems with no tune or the 52000 miles I ran the 00 SS I did they same thing to? Just a question and I gained roughly 15 to 20 horses at the wheels with the CAI and exhuast on my LS1's????? Seems weird. If I dont replace the veck down why would it run rich?
