Ok, I've tried my ratchet/socket, W/ breaker bar (love that jack rod) and even tried my impact wrench at 120PSI. I also tried to spray some WD-40 on it and let it sit... NOTHING! I wish I had a torch, I would just heat it and POW! I'm going to fill it this time in the whole where the hose connects to the top (right above the fill plug). I'm afraid to do any more because it's already started to strip.

Any suggestions?

Any will help tons!

Bump.
Well, I don't know what kind of elbow room you have, but after letting the WD-40 sit for a little, can you hit it right on the top of it to try and loosen it's grip some? Doing that (while cursing) is usually what I do when I'm at my wit's end with something that won't unscrew. :hissy:

But the front diff fill plug is really a round metal plate held in place by a bolt? .... I shouldn't be that tight or difficult to loosen. Are you sure you're loosening the correct bolt? (Bolt with something like a 2" round plate beneath it near the top).

Just did mine today... I did not have a problem at all. Not saying you don't know what your doing but can you take a pic of it so we can make sure your on the right bolt/plug?

Yeah, i was on the right bolt (2" pain in my ass) i had the car up on ramps so I didn't have much room to use a bigger breaker bar. I went to the store here and they didnt have a torch (limited stores around here open due to Labor Day and a "weekend"). I cussed some more, sprayed some more WD-40 (wish I had some Mr. Wrench) used the 1/2 inch ratched i have and my hamer with all the force I had without missing and hitting not only my hand/fingers but the under side and axles. I finally just moved on and am going to wait until tomorrow when the parts store is open again and then just do WHATEVER I have to do to get it off.

This is the first time I've changed the fluids in this myself and I am pretty sure I have never taken it to a place to have it done(aside from motor oil/filter, I do that every 3K like grandma goes to church). Might just have a ish ton of build up on the other side. I am pretty sure the people before me took it to some place that was insuring they get business again and tightening it like a mad man... wonder if there is some thread lock on it too...????:thx:thx:thx:thx

Dont worry, I refilled the Diff. but had to do it from that hose above the fill plug.

did the job but I would like to KNOW for sure that I have enough fluid in it. I put what the specs. say to put (dont remember the exact number now but I think its like 1.7 Pts.). Just a peice of mind thing.

Tomorrow I am going to fix the plug and move onto the tranny filter/ATF change.

which brings up a new question... anyone know what kind of gear lube I use for my Transfer case? I figured it was just the same lube but couldnt find anything at Schucks to tell me exactly what I needed and how much (the book that comes with the car doesnt even say a damn thing).

Thank you EVERYONE for pitching in your ideas. I will get a torch tomorrow and some pb blaster as well as some Mr. Wrench.

Thats about right for the front diff so your good there.
As far as the transfer case, did that today as well. You have to buy this from the dealer. Takes about 2 quarts, perrty blue stuff tooo and it dont smell as bad as the diff fluid. 10mm torqs by the way for the fill/drain.

You might want to check into getting another plug since you said it was starting to strip.

:iagree: Transfer case fluid is Auto-Trak II. About $8 a quart from the dealer and you need two quarts.

Good luck. As I keep pointing out, WD40 is not designed to be a penetrating oil, and I've been very happy with PB Blaster....the book that comes with the car doesnt even say a damn thing...But I can't let this slide. From your exact manual:

That isn't a washer on the fill port, that is the size of the plug/threads. If you haven't done this yet the best way to remove this is to use an impact wrench with a six point socket on an extension from the wheel well, and you'll likely have to heat the hell out of the housing it's screwed into. Ironically, I just had to do this again today also and it was still tight as all hell had to put the torch to it for almost 2 minutes.

Another genius GM redesign of a part that always worked fine for decades to something that doesn't work worth a dam and causes nothing but problems.

I didn't see that in mine. Maybe I just overlooked that one (a few times) as I was getting my shopping list together for the day.

Thanks to everyone a ton! Very impressed with the amount of replys in the amount of time!
