I'm coming up 50,000 miles, time to change Transfer Case Fluid. How do I go about this?

Goto dealer, get 2 litres of GM AutoTrak II fluid (GM specific, no substitute as of yet), 3/8" hex insert for ratchet and a jack if you need to remove the skid plates.
Takes very little time at all, but I would recommend getting a shop manual first just to show you houw to do it. I have a cheapo Haynes one that I used at my 50K checkup and did everything myself with that and this site.

Erik, how'd that t-case oil look with 50Kmi on it? Just wondering if these cases beat up the oil or not.

I think it has a bearing on how much you use 4wd but I had 45k when I changed mine and it was pretty shot.

Well, since it was the first time I had ever changed t-case oil, I had absolutely no idea what it was supposed to look like until I opened the new bottles, and the old oil was pretty beat up, I am glad I replaced it. Cost like $25-30ish from the dealer for the oil.

OK so what physically needs to be done to replace it? I take it there is a drain plug on the transfer case that has to be removed. Does it drain by gravity/naturally? How is it refillled? How do you know it's full? More help/information would be appreciated.

OK, so you take you 3/8" hex insert and open the fill plug on the t-case (top plug) and then put your drain pan under it and remove the drain plug as well (bottom plug). After it has drained, clean the drain plug and replace it, torquing to like 30-35ft lbs. Then, take a hand pump and pump the 2 litres of t-case oil into the t-case. Clean and replace fill plug and torque to 30-35ft lbs.

The service manual also recommends putting thread sealant on the threads of both plugs.

Yeah, you could, an aluminum case and a steel plug spells disaster over time. A mild sealant or just lubing the plug up with never-seize should do it.
