If it's a BILL, then it's still open for debate. If it's a LAW, then you need to work on getting it repealed.

Was the BILL PASSED and SIGNED and is now a LAW, or not?

Buy EFILive, HPTuners, and SCT. Got GM, Ford, and some Dodges there, can flash them with raised limiters!:x

Believe it or not, but the device they want to require be installed on the auto's is already in one of the cars here in the U.S.

The Nissan GTR has an electronic speed limiter governed by gps that limits the top speed to about 85-90 (I'm not sure) while on roads. It only disengages when you are on a track.

Point being this isn't too far from being a bill in the U.S. house.

Most modern cars have limiters or governers to prevent higher speeds. 150k is about 90-95mph if i am converting correctly. Is there anywhere you can drive that speed legally?

I think the objection is that the government (i.e.: the ones who operate police chase vehicles) shouldn't mandate a 93 MPH limiter. How would you escape the zombies who drive pre-limiter vehicles if you had to? Or the ever-popular "driving the wife-in-labor to the hospital on a deserted freeway at 3AM" argument.

Not taking either side in the debate. But it's sure to be a lively one.

At the track we can drive that speed, I would love to see what all those gear heads would do about this. Where else can they get that adrenalin rush from if not on the track, it's not the first time people try to fix a problem by creating another.

You guys are having an interesting debate.

To me, this falls into the same basket as the seatbelt laws, the 5 mph bumpers, the centre stop light, the day time running lights, the need to have lights on if wipers are on (some US states), noise laws, etc.

All safety things, and IMO, all good things to have.

The bill we need to stop (in Canada) is one that permits random Breathalyzer checks without cause.

You read it correctly; for no reason, a road-side check. THAT IS BIG BROTHER GOING TOO FAR.

Just heard about it today, I will be looking into this.

Of they made everyone drive those little "SMART" cars they wouldn't need ANY limiters and if you were drunk you would never find it :excited::crackup:

(3) No person who repairs or maintains a vehicle shall release the vehicle to another person unless the vehicle is equipped with a speed limiter that is engaged and set to a maximum speed that is not greater than 150 kilometres per hour.

So they want to turn your friendly neighbourhood mechanic into the speed police! In Canada all kinds of wacky private member bills hit the agenda but very few ever make it into law. The federal Liberal party is currently fighting for its life and the joker that is sponsoring this bill has been around for almost 21 years without holding a post more senior than parliamentary secretary and committee member on a few lame committees. I don't think he has the political capital to pull it off.
