On 4X4, since you have to change the front ring and pinion also, I think you're talking about a $2000 job. Talk to a local differential specialist. You might as well look into nitrous.
You'd get the equivalent improvement by going to smaller tires. But it would look dumb.

your saying that if change the rear gear , must change the front??? , because i can change the rear for 100 $ (labor) only
and what do you mean about (look into nitrous )

Unless you want your front differential to explode into thousands of pieces, it must rotate at the same RPM as the rear. Although I think if it is NEVER engaged, it might be OK as it is disconnected at the transfer case (Roadie, please confirm). However, would you really want to take that chance?
Here is my write up of changing my gears to 4.56, it may shed some light.

I believe you'd be fine as long as you never engaged 4x4. If you plan on using 4x4 you will need to change the front gears to match the rear. What type of racing are you talking about?

Was the 4.10 an option with the v8?

I believe you'd be fine as long as you never engaged 4x4. If you plan on using 4x4 you will need to change the front gears to match the rear. Honestly if you are worried about MPG suffering and high RPM I would look into forced induction (turbocharging or supercharging) or else spraying nitrous for the boost during racing. I guess I should ask it, what type of racing are you talking about?
we dont have a track here so all street racing from 0 sometimes and sometimes from A 40 and i do have supercharger installed see signature , this is why i,m thinking for 4.10 , and what is the deal here , if put 4.10 rear what should i put in front ???

It's available on trucks that are made for towing. MY dad has a GMC Sierra 2500HD with the 6.0L, and it has 4.10's.

Only on the SS. 5.3s had 3.42s or 3.73s.

Yes I noticed that in your signature so I left it out. If you're putting 4.10 in the rear then you need to put 4.10 in the front.

Should have left it to the offroad guys to answer...:duh: Dont the H3s have an option for an aftermarket locker now too? That we cant run because our front diffs are weaker or something?
