OK, pics are being posted here http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=2126602999
I have to take my running boards off still, but I did a pretty decent install of the speakers. The factory mounting locations have 2 plastic set pins. They had to be cut off with a utility knife. Other than that the sound is night and day difference over the new HU and factory speakers. So many more sounds come through these. Very crisp :)
Will put a little write up on the Bowtie install under Exterior.

Thanks Larry, I hope to have many more projects complete before August (Carlisle Truck Nationals). My plans are as follows.
Front leveling kit
Chrome Speed Grille
Rims (16x8) stock tires for now (not enough $$$ and to many miles left on the stockers)
New stainless resonator
Flares
Finish moulding removal

Cool... are your speakers hooked up to the stock HU still? Any subs or other components?
I'm curious to hear just how much you've modified; I'd love to just replace the speakers too. What model did you get?

Hey Charlie, they are hooked up to my Sony HU (Sony CDX-F7715X CD/MP3 Receiver) and the speakers are the Pioneer 4 way 6 3/4 (TS-A1681R). They sound awesome. I swapped out my HU 2 weeks ago for the XM Sony unit I have now, which made the factory speakers sound so much nicer. Now I added new door speakers and it is almost complete. I am going to add a 8" or 10" self amplified tube to complete the sound. I do not want loud, only clean/crisp sound across the whole spectrum. These are my most favorite mods yet (the HU and speakers).

Awesome! I'm still holding out on a HU swap; I'll do that once I can afford an aftermarket in-dash NAV unit. The speakers and sub might come before then though. :D

I've been fighting back the urge to buy a double din HU but I think I'm close to breaking down. I've recently discovered the Pioneer AVIC-D1, what I like about it is it has double DVD roms, so you don't have to swap out your nav dvd when listening to music, and its going for around $1200 on ebay, cheaper than the Kenwood and Eclipse double din nav systems.

I think kenwood has the touch screen too, but its going for around $1000 and the navigation box is another $800 and its a separate unit that you have to put somewhere. Not a big problem, I think you could fit the nav box under the dash to the left of the steering wheel behind the light controls. The eclipse unit only has one dvd rom and requires swapping. I don't know if the eclipse unit with the hard drive will store the info on the hd, it looked like it only stored ATRAC audio on it. Eclipse HUs are really naaice though.</ramble>

Yeah, I will eventually buy a nav unit, I think I am going to go for one of the Garmin units though.

That pioneer is all self contained? No antennae or anything else to mount? That's awesome; exactly what I'm looking for. Just a bit too rich for my blood right now. :o

It probably has an external antenna. I don't think you can get any GPS signal inside your dash. If and when I get mine I am going to try to remove the dash mount tweeters (because I don't use them) and try to install the antenna in there and see if I can get decent signal.

this unit is exactly like the factory unit - compare the pictures to ones found on ebay and it looks exactly the same! They even offer the cd-changer so you can still listen to music cd's. It also includes EVERYTHING for a seamless onstar & XM swapover....I'm thinking of biting on this one!

I like the radio that you found on JP Customs. Looks like the stock system. So my question is, I want to add visor LCD's and a separate DVD Player in the glove compartment I wonder if this radio has input device that I can have the DVD sound come through the speakers. Any suggestions ?
