I am with you on this one. I am going to being taking a class at the local community college tech ceter in a few months to learn the proper technics of fiberglassing. You may want to check on that in your area.

Sounds like me... I'm planning once I figure out what custom work I want done, to take an auto re-painting class if for no other reason than having access to equipment and a spray booth. Maybe some ghost flames or something

It helps too that I work for the community college, and they pay tuition for up to 8 credits per semester. Essentially I'd just have to buy the paint, finisher, etc.

Extra Extra....I got good news. I was finally able to get some fiberglass on to a project. About time huh...Well this stuff really is bad for your health and since it is raining down here in SUNNY FLORIDA I have to wait. I basically put together a 15" square for a tv that I might install inside the car flush mounted. I really like the idea of moving everything around?!? I will post pics during the daylight of how the process looked...If I could explain the smell you would not want to look at the picture...Pics Soon I promise

Sounds like you have it all planned out already, is there a color change in your trucks future, or just some minor mods??

Not a "complete" color change; I'm thinking probably just some custom graphics up the side doors, nothing too busy or distasteful, but unique.

I bet you start out small, and then get excited and go crazy, but tastefully as you said. That would be me for sure!! :m2:

Yeah if I hang on to this truck for long enough (which I certainly plan to) it's going to start looking like Sonic's (Frank's) TB in terms of the mods list
I'm sure glad I can survive on bread and water, I'll be broke :x

Charlie, you come to see me in NC and I will let you use my booth at the shop anytime! :D There are many advantages to running a paint and body shop that also does car stereo installs!!
We also mix all of our own paint at the shop. Spies Hecker http://www.spieshecker.com/ hooked us up with a full mixing system. They are a german paint manufactuer and their paint is top notch!! We were using Dupont, which is good paint but we found that the Spies covers so much better. We still use Dupont Hyper-Clear for quick jobs, but mainly Spies is all we use now. So, if anyone here needs some paint mixed and you want to save some money, let me know. Usually the smallest amount I can mix on this machine is 4 ounces. I have some Standox paint left that I can do 2 ounce mixes with but not much. Usually all I need is your paint code unless there are multiple variants for your code. I just bought us a handheld computer that takes an actual digital image of your paint's surface and will tell me exactly what your paint mix is!! This is an amazing product and what I like, is it will account for fading and allows for a perfect match 99% of the time.

 That's an awesome looking system. And if it's anything like the paints put out by OEM German carmakers it's probably a really durable paint (VW, Audi, etc. are notorious for "hard" clearcoats/paints that take more agressive polishes/compounds to detail). I've never heard of a system that can account for fade, either; technology has certainly come a long way from the PPG and DuPont systems I see commonly around here.
And thanks for the offer on the booth -- if I'm ever down that way I'll be sure to stop in and at least say hi.

Sounds Great!! I will leave the lights on for you!! :D
Yeah, the system was $5k!! But it has already paid for itself in the first month. No more guessing at paint chips - the problem with painting is you do not get to see the finished product until you are done!! Then it is too late and you have to start all over if the color is off - That sucks!! With this unit the chances of that happening is slim to none. It is not perfect, but it is the next best thing.

Good luck, the nitrous looks good in there. The best "system" to have in the back :D
