Wife ran over something on interstate today. Tire cannot be plugged. Need your new opinion on new tires. Here are my choices for 245/65/17 for envoy. Bridgestone Dueler Alenza, Michelin LTX MS, Firestone Destination LE, Cooper Discoverer HT and Cooper discoverer ATR. OEM were Cross terrains. Want a tire that rides well but also performs well in snow. I know that is what Cross Terrains are designed for but not do well in snow. Thanks for your input.

Care to expand on the "tire cannot be plugged". Curious. Got a nail in my rear tire and I plugged it w/ a normal cord plug kit from Autozone. Know it's probably not recommended but can see buying a new tire w/ only 700miles.

Well, I have always been a big fan of Bridgestone myself, have had good luck with those tires on my truck. Our Voy had the Cross Terrains, and they are a good tire, just $$$. Since we just put 20's on, I went with Hankook tires, they seem to have a good variety of tires, you might want to take a look at them and see if like that brand.

I think my Michelin Cross Terrain SUV's are excellent in the snow. To put it in perspective though, my OEM's were Continentals.

Yeah, hankook's are a great value. I'm partial to coopers myself. Have had excellent service out of them over the years.

you don't ever want to plug tires. patching a tire with a uniseal patch is the one way to go. long term plugs will start to leak again, make the hole larger than it has to be, voids any manufacture warranty, and you run the risk of air getting in between the liners of the tire and potently causing a tread separation of blow out with damage to the plastic wheel wells of todays cars. i would use a plug if i get a flat out were i can't get a patch right away. but i would replace the tire or patch it correctly asap. my life and my family are way to important to be sweating a iffy tire on my ride. all for a 200$ tire or so.
if i get a flat i just replace the tire or tires if they are lower than half tread. cheap insurance in my book. :m2:

Destination A/T are by far the best tire for the money that I've ever owned. I've had them on for over 10,000 miles and I love them :hail: ....

Read the reviews for yourself

sorry so long to get back to you. I decided to get cooper discoverer atr. They look great on envoy!!!! Handling is slightly better but slightly more road noise. Have no regrets about buying coopers!!!!

I would definately go with the Michelin LTX's. I just got a set of 245/65 17's on my truck and they are way better in the snow and mud then my factory Michelin Cross Terrains were. The only downfall is that they are a bit noiser.

I was told today that cooper was the only tire made in the US of A. If anyone knows anything different, please set the person who told me straight. I would, in these tough times, have to support our states. God bless us all.

I think cooper is on of the very few who make ALL there tires in the US. I used to work for Michelin in Spartanburg SC. Most tire makers, market there tires world wide, so it makes sense to manufacture them world wide.

This looks like it's specifically for off-road use as the OP requested.. I'm looking for the all-season tires.. looks like this has good reviews as well --and it's also firestone.. anyone have any inputs on these?

If I had to choose from that list, I would get the Michelin LTX. I almost put them on mine but then I found out they are blackwall only in that size (I wanted the white letters). I ended up getting the Destination A/T. My only complaint is the lettering looks too small compared to other white letter tires. I know it doesn't matter, but I like larger lettering. You're probably doing blackwall since that's what yours came with.

I've put the LTX on several different vehicles and it's a fantastic tire.
