I am not too sure it is the same truck but I read that they were using the same 4.2L but lowered the compression to 8.5 in order to run twin turbos. HP output approx 400.

I agree with Envoy fan. This will be my next purchase if I can get it for around $40k loaded.
I heard it is suppose to have a 390 HP 6.0L. GM won't let it out do the Vette.

It looks cool. But I just use a Trailblazer for everyday utility use. I have my C5 for summertime fun use.

If I wasn't living in an environment like Michigan, I'd have a TB SS for everyday utility AND a fun car like a C5/6. Best of both worlds!!

That is the key point. The TB is my winter vehicle here in the snowbelt.

Which is why you're going to see a ton of them in southern environments and only a few around here. Just like the Silverado SS.

Hopefully it doesn't ONLY have leather seats. Too hot here in AZ. Also hope Silver exterior and maybe a "saab 9-7ish" interior upgrade. $40K is a bit steep, since the LT I configured came to $28K after $3K rebate!
Speaking of which, if this is too much, and I just go with the LT, does anyone know an appproximate cost of getting a lowered suspension and wheel/tire combo similar to the TB SS?
Any update to the AWD rumor?
First post - nice to meet you all.

Welcome to the site.
Lowering the suspension might be accomplished just by purchasing the springs the SS uses when it is released. I think you can get the ground force lowering kit for around $200.00, maybe a little less. There are others available also similiary priced. Don't know if the sway bars will be any different than an LT, but there is a possible upgrade if they are larger. Tires and wheels will probably be anywhere from $1400 on the low side to $2400 top end, depending on the tire wheel combo you decide on.
Pricing on the '06 SS should be interesting. I just priced an '05 Envoy Denali that is soon to be released with the 5.3L V8. In a 4X4 with Bose, side impact airbags, 3.73 axle it MSRP'd for like $41K. The vehicle had almost all options. Would hope the SS TB would be less by a few large. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Personally, I wouldn't be that interested in buying one. It looks cool and all...but I'd rather spend the money on sports car. It just doesn't seem logical to drop a ton of money on a supped up SUV. I don't know maybe i'm wrong!! Maybe there is a large market out there for these types of vehicles. The thing i'm waiting for is all the aftermarket parts (ie. body mods) to come out.
After starring at the SS pics for 30min i realized that there is no gap between the front fender and bumper....I'm jealous!!

As much as I like the SS that is coming out I am really waiting on whether they produce a Z71 version. The concept that they had a year ago was awesome IMO. They have a Z71 for everything else but the Trailblazer. I hope they come out with one soon. I think that is the market that would be a big hit. Look at all the trucks out on the road that have the Z71 package on them, there are alot, between the Silverado's and the Colorado's.

Do you see how the Z71 package "bumps" up the price on a Tahoe or Suburban these days? Its kinda crazy. I priced out a Z71 Tahoe for $50k and change. That is just not right to me. That's the main reason I am in a TB now instead of a Tahoe.
I agree that a Z71 TB would be cool. But feasible is a different issue.

Yay - my first post!
jaykayca,
Welcome to the site. It is getting bigger and bigger every day.
I would say the SS will cost $40k fully loaded. MSRP on maxed out Trailblazers are pushing right now. $40k would be worth it as long as it has AWD or 4X4. I would love an all season vehicle that can go off road and 0-60 in less than 6 seconds.

Someone should start up a pool (sp?), Everyone could guess what the price of the "ss" will be and the member who guesses the exact price wins something. Might be a good incentive to get other members to the site.

"Tell him what he's won, Johnny!!"
"Well, for guessing the correct price, You've won yourself a BRAND NEW 2006 Trailblazer SS!!"

...yeah right.
Not a bad idea though; what would the giveaway be? Gift certificate to Stylinconcepts maybe? Could work....

Here is the latest news concerning the Trailblazer SS, also two other SS models coming out.
Chevrolet's family of SS models will grow by three members when the General Motors division unveils the TrailBlazer SS, Malibu SS and Malibu Maxx SS at the auto show in New York this week.
The new 2006 models join SSR, Silverado SS and Cobalt SS Supercharged along with the 2006 Impala SS and Monte Carlo SS, giving Chevrolet an unprecedented eight SS models to sell.
The TrailBlazer SS, a midsize sport-utility, features a Corvette-derived LS2 6.0-liter V8, rated at 391 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. On sale this fall, the TrailBlazer SS is outfitted with a track-tuned suspension and can be ordered with all-wheel drive.
Also available this fall are the SS versions of the Malibu sedan and stretched Malibu Maxx. They are equipped with a 3.9-liter V6 engine rated at 240 hp with 241 lb-ft of torque.

Well I couldn't wait for the Trailblazer SS so I bought a 2005 CTS V on Thursday. I traded in my Grand Prix. The LS6 puts out 400hp / 395 ft/lbs of torque in the V. There are only 3700 made in two years so far.
The dealer said they usually sell for above MSRP (possibly the SS also) because they are like a special edition. I got mine for about $50,000 before my deposit and GM card credits, probably because I have been a customer of theirs for 5 years.

Ultimate selling price of the SS TB will be dependent on supply and demand. The SSR is struggling to sell and they have about a 300 day supply of them. If the General prices the TB SS acceptably, they will sell. JMHO

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that they will price this new TB SS too high, just like they did for the SSR, due to the modified LS2 in it.
I just saw an SSR at the car show priced at $49,650. (crazy)
I'll be very surprised if this new TB SS is under $50k.

My thoughts are that the SS TB will need to be under $40K to be a success. The target market for that vehicle will not have real deep pockets to pay any more. Also, if this LS2 uses premium fuel and premium gas is near $3.00 a gallon this will slow the sale. Cost of insurance for the big engine TB SS will be another factor.
A buyer can get a Durango with cloth seats and a Hemi for less than $30K MSRP. There is competition out there for GM to recognize.

Lets just say they are going to have to put HUGE rebates on it as soon as it comes out to get it to a price point that poeple can justify.

I'm with you on this. Same for the Corvette. I've only been stopped twice in 4 years for no front plate. Got off with a warning both times. I'll never put a front plate on it.

I wouldn't expect huge rebates. SS are speciality vehicles. They usually hold their MSRP or the dealers demand more.

What is it about a black Trailblazer SS that makes it look so fine? I owned one black car 95 Mustang GT it looked so fine but was such a pain in the -ss to keep clean. I'm assuming that the all-wheel will be non select, no low range. I know one thing I will be drulling but most likely won't be buying one. If I fall down and land on big money the GTO is first on my list of go fast cars. Just so I can show the new Mustang owners that just like in 65 the GTO is still the fastest.
