From GoodYear Triple treads to Michelin LTX A/T 2

I am thinking about getting these Michelin LTX A/T 2 in size 255/70/16 to replace my Goodyear triple treads 255/70/16. I liked the way the triple treads performed while they lasted, they have a 60k mile limited warranty. I have just over 20k miles and they are shot. I rotated every 6k miles, they wore evenly just to FAST. I am getting a pro rated price from the good years towards any new tire Mr.Tire sells.

Any feedback from TV people would be great, pics even better.

Thinking about getting these

Either way, Just wanted to say I am very satisfied with the new Michelin AT2's. I hope they last longer than the triple treads.

Have had several sets of LTX M+S on different trucks including both tb's and love them. The ones that I have are good for 80k miles at least. Let me know how the tires that you just put on hold up. Jay

I agree! They are great tires.

Sorry we were not here to offer advice in a timely manner. We will try to do better in the future.

Very few Trailvoy owners select this tire because it is not aggressive enough for the hard-core offroaders but is seen as too aggressive for the street/highway drivers.

Here is what you can do in the future if we don't leap into action fast enough for you: go to tirerack.com, pull up that tire, spend an hour and read the MANY MANY reviews, tests and owner ratings on it. See which ones seem to match your needs.

As for the tire itself, it is the second-best Michelin I have ever had on all my Blazers and Trailblazers over the years. I have never owned a Goodyear I liked, and have never owned a Michelin I disliked.

Keep an eye on the date code. Some of those Goodyears sit on the rack for ten years or more. On the sidewall following DOT you will see a 3 or 4 digit code. 459 means the tire was made 45th week of 1999. In 2000 they added the extra number 4502 45th week of 2002. If they are older than 4 years don't buy them. Tell the dealer to show the number before the install and have it put on your receipt. Retired tires dry out and peel off.

I had those Tripltreds on my vehicle for 1 month and could not wait to get them pulled off...just terrible tires. As to your future tire I agree with others that have posted that the LTX's will make your SUV ride like a old pickup truck. Once I got rid of those POC Goodyears I purchased a set of Michlein Cross Terrains and find them to be a great all around tire. Kind of costly though.

BTW I dont personally care about your negative comment regarding the forum, but that kind of comment will get you severly "tongue lashed" here. Try the sweet approach, it works better!:)

This part of the forum is very slow in my opinion. So if you get offended that easily I apologize:raspberry

Don't remember the original tires, just know they sucked.

2) Geolander A/T-S in 255/70/16 Got around 20k miles and were quiet tires

3) Goodyear Triple Tread in 255/70/16 Got around 20k miles and were quiet tires

4) Michelin AT2 in 255/70/16 Current tire
Got maybe 150 miles on them and they are definitely louder than the others I have had in the past, but traction in snow is by far the best of the 3 listed here.

only 20k on a set of tires  I assume any modern day tire would give you a minimum of 35k

I had a former goodyear tire builder/engineer told me (after I asked him what I should purchase) he said to purchase a Michelin A A rated tire or higher. He said the most important part of the tire is it's stopping ability. Crappy tires will give you a longer distance of travel when stopping--- which could equal to a rear end collision.
:m2:
FYI poom, if you don't get much of a response, try replying to your own post with a "bump" and maybe broaden your question (if you think that could help)

20K on tires has to be some sort of driver error or nasty road compound. I have NEVER gotten less than 50K on any tire.

We just replaced some trippletreds on a customers car and they had 82K on them with 3/32" of tred left. He was unaware that they were rated at 60K. He got another set of them and was super happy.

I've had the original LTX AT's on my 96 C-1500, perfect tire for a 2wd. However, after lookint at the LTX AT2, i'm not as convinced it is the same quality tire in compairson.

Problem of course is, the AT2 is the newer "better" computer design and they won't go back to the original design.

I needed tires on that truck and put the Cooper Discoverer HT's. Total mistake. I want my AT's back. Not sure what I'll be putting on the truck when I finally replace the HT's.

I have also tried the LTX MS tire on a 01 Blazer that we traded in on our TB. They where a very nice tire, but like mentioned earlier, not aggresive enough for offroad. So we're going with BFG AT KO once the wheel we want is released next month as a replacement on the TB
