I have an '02 Trailblazer with an I6 but I want an exhaust kit that sounds throaty like a V8, and with some loudness to get noticed...What kit/setup would do this for me?

You COULD always just take off the muffler/resorator and throw in a stright pipe :D

Welcome!
I just put a custom Magnaflow 3" cat-back on my TB with a 12" glasspack resonator for about $420 installed. It sounds really nice (I will get some sound clips for you guys of the resonator), but it does drone a little bit at 1900-2000RPMs. Other than that, it sounds meaty and like it will blow your pants off.:D

my idea is to go a shop where i got my 77 Corvette done, and just have the guy either do whatever he thinks will sound good, or get him to replicate a borla/magnaflow setup...where did you get the magnaflow kit? any part numbers?

I added a flowmaster 40 series with a glasspack and a chrome tip for 170. Look at my gallery for pics.

how does it sound?
The Borla has a really nice low mellow tone to it and with the Wester's tune actually has a slight reverberation to it. - Sounds great with the windows down in nice weather, just the right amount of growl. As posted, they Borla isn't cheap...I was lucky enough to score one off eBay before the prices jumped nearly $200.
Be warned, that there is a small amount of drone under load between maybe 1500-2000 rpms when cruising. (Less noticeable as the rpms approach 2000, starts at 1500 and gradually decreases as rpms rise....its actually not very loud, but it is there). From what I've seen and heard, any exhaust short of an OEM replacement creates some drone with the I6 and the Borla seems to have less than most.
Now that the weather is nice, if I can figure out what to strap to my step-hitch to record a sound clip, I'll try making a recording one of these days.

sure...send any sound/video clips to cfl_77@hotmail.com .....all the suggestions are really helping and i think what ill end up doing is making my own kit, but basically the same layout and stuff as the Borla...i know a guy who could do it...whats a Wester's Tune?...

Sorry, I just found this thread. That sounds good. So... replace the resonator with a glasspack and the muffler with the flowmaster 40? Is that what I should do with mine? Or am I backwards. I'm new at this. Glasspack meaning cherry bomb?

The flowmaster 40 replaces the trash can muffler that is about 32" long and the glasspack replaces the resonator coffee can at the back before the tip. The glasspack takes out a lot of the drone and yes it is the same as the old cherry bomb muffler (my glasspack is black) with a flow through just like a resonator. The sound is awesome and will also add some performance and you can hear the growl when you get on it. Like others have said, there is still a little drone shifting through the gears but when you are cruising the sound tends to go away. Therte will always be a little drone with all exhaust systems unless you leave it stock. Performance exhaust has a price, but the rewards are far greater in the sound we are trying to achieve and the performance is great.

200 bucks was a great deal. I got mine brand new for 895. Even though i spent more than i wanted to, i'm happy with the overall purchase...visually it looks awesome, and i'm very happy with the sound also. Like you mentioned a slight drone at crusing speeds, but if you have the radio up you won't hear it(sometimes i turn down the radio just to hear it)

I hear ya Tim, I can cover the little drone I have now up with the tunes, but I find myself turning them down and rolling the windows down to hear the sweeeet music from my engine!!!:D

I have a magnaflow with a glasspack and a 3" tube. Sounds great when you push the gas. I have pics of it in the gallery. And shortly I will put in the sound sometime this week.
