Welcome to the forum
Haven't heard of a successful (or unsuccessful) transplant yet. The way is open for you to be the first one.
I thought about it when I had my '03 GMC Envoy. Looked like a pretty pricey mod, unless you can DIY. Will need a new engine computer, and maybe a body control module. A lot of items will be needed. I just got rid of the '03 and got an '05 Envoy Denali that had the 5.3L engine in it. Also got a new warranty with it. :D
If you do it, might as well just put the 6.0L in. Same external physical size, but more cubes inside.
I wouldn't bother. The 5.3L would be just as boring. Take whatever you would put into a swap and get a turbo for the 4200.....much better investment, and LOTS more power.

i had been giving this some though before not with the 5.3L but with maybe a 6cyl turbo diesel. this was just a thought. it would be unique to say the least.
I think it would be more expensive to swap from 4.2 to 5.3 then to just buy a swb with the 5.3. Since the lack of pcm support, but that is changing.

My I6 is one of the lucky ones. It is stronger today than when I bought it. I have ridden in at least 10 other I6's with my company and they are very lacking. Though if I were to get rid of mine I would rather have an SS.

I had an 30 TB with the I6, Bought the LT TB with 5.3. My 03 had some go to it. The 06 really gets off the line, and has more pop from 50-70 when I step on it. I've only got 5300 miles on it, but I'm glad I got the 5.3. Hope this helps. I'd love to have a diesel TB.

If you have a 4x4 the diferental is bolted to the oil pan and the axle shaft passes through the pan. I have never looked at a V8 model to see how the front diferental is mounted, you may have to swap that also.
I don't think it would be cost effective to do the swap.

Just toss in a ls2 crate motor.

If you want to spend a ton of money on an engine swap why not go for it and drop in a 502 Ram Jet Big Block!:rotfl: Anything can be done if you throw enough $$$ at it. Better yet install a jet turbine like this S-10 I saw...

I will stick with my I6 and put a turbo and a intercooler on it someday if I win the lotto!

What is the HP difference between the two engines? I don't think it is much is it?

Well, thats true, for the 06s (and 05s w/MAF) that make 291 hp, it is only 9hp difference between the two engines. The difference comes in with torque. The I6 makes 277ft/lbs at like 3500RPM-ish, while the 5.3L V8 makes 330ft/lbs at like 4000RPM-ish. Thats almost 60ft/lbs, which in turn allows for better towing and other torque related tasks to be completed better.
Personally, I love my I6. It just pulls forever in 2nd gear from 45-85.
But, I wouldnt mind a supercharger or LS7 (ok, LS2- lets be realistic here:laugh: ) in my TB. Definately would make everyone wonder what the heck just shot by them.:D :raspberry
