View Full Version : Body roll fix?

Hi all, new to the site and not (yet) an SS owner. I've taken one for a test drive twice over the last two days and I'm a little conflicted.

It's comfortable, rides well, interior is real nice and the power is acceptable but I'm bothered how it feels 'tippy' when making small turns. It feels fine once this initial roll occurs and actually feels like it holds a corner better than my Lightning but before I buy one I'd like to know if anyone knows a fix.

Thanks!

I think Hotchkis makes a rear sway bar for the TB, which fits on the SS. I would want to know for sure the dimensions of both the stock TBSS sway bar, as well as the Hotchkis part, before making any assumptions. Perhaps the stock TBSS sway is already close to the upgraded Hotchkis bar and wouldn't be worth the upgrade.

People in the - know please chime in.

I've had mine full on sideways, lemme tell you my results:

It rolls to a point and won't go any further than that. It looks and feels like a TON of body roll, but the truck never tips, and its real easy to control. Look around for some videos I made, and you'll see what I'm talking about

Red SS - I believe you. I pushed it pretty hard during the test drive and I know it will handle. As I said, once it's pushed a little it feels like it may grab better than my Lightning.. I just do not like the initial little 'wobble' feel when you start to turn in.

TBSS - I read about the Hotchkis rear bar but I'd like to *know* that it resolves the issue, since what I found was listed for Trailblazers in general.

22's eh? Not sure I want to spend 30k on a vehicle and then another 2k to replace the wheels and tires, but thanks for the tip.

Sorry guys, I'm a GM fan and I like 'em alot but I'm having a hard time committing to the change. It's hard to give up 100lb-ft of torque, ya know?

There isn't much sidewall to flex on a 255/50-20 tire, so that isn't the issue, it's the sway bars and the airbags that are the culprit. All 22" wheels and tires would do, IMO, is make you more prone to wheel damage.

Only 100 lb/ft of TQ in that Lightning, huh? That's too bad....I actually thought they had more 'nads than that.

:duh: I'm sure you realize I said "giving up 100lb-ft", as in the Lightning out-torques the SS by a huge margin. I've dyno'd mine at 425lb-ft to the tires. The only actual dyno numbers I've seen posted for the SS was only 344 and I'm sure it's up higher RPM.

Thanks for the feedback, I concur with your statement about the tires versus suspension. I'd like to hear from someone who had the same issue and found a fix.

I read about your seat issues - despite all that, you still like your SS?

Love the power and handling, but it's hard to appreciate your vehicle when it's uncomfortable to drive, and difficult to stay in your seat when taking a banking left turn.

The problems with the seat are compounding....I threw my back out for the second time since I've had the truck, something I didn't do in 2 years with my full-size Chevy. Spending more than 10 minutes in the driver's seat necessitates 15 minutes of stretching to overcome the resulting spine misalignment.

And it's going on 2 months since Chevy took my call and all of the details of my problems, with zero follow-up since then. Let me state that again - ZERO FOLLOW-UP. A promise of a 4-hour turnaround on the call is obviously not going to happen with this issue....looks like it may never happen.

Corporate behavior like this will certainly help them with their current and immediate future problems. :weird:
