I recently took my 04 4wd tb on its first tirp to from Detroit to Chicago. On the way there I got around 21-22mpg.
On the way home I got an great 25mpg with a tail wind :D
So I thought it was just the tail wind that gave me the great mpg, But I now have been driving for the past 2 days in traffic, morning and afternoon and Im still on Full and the range is at 418 miles. I should be at 3/4 of a tank.
Can anyone offer any explination?

The GM people are sneaking into your driveway and adding gas to your tank at night. ;) :D

I drive every day 35 miles round trip with stop and go and avg 19-20 MPG a tank. I couls see it happening with no problem. I got 20 with AC on driving 75mph to Baltimore a few weeks ago. But my 3.42's help that ;)

 whoa. I can believe the 21 MPG, I've gotten that in my truck before. The 25 though... that's unbelievably awesome. Either you've got a REALLY light foot, or your truck must be lighter than the rest of ours for some reason!!

Drafting :D I think it could happen. Right air outside and nice flat roads.

The truck is stock 100% and as far as weight, just me a passenger and light luggage. I did take the rails off the roof prior to the trip, but I dont think that effected much.
I think that the 25mpg on the way back from chicago was one hell of a good tail wind.
The only other thing is that when I filled up the tank to start home I reset the avg. mpg on my steering wheel.
This all doesnt explain why Im still reading nearly 450mpg on my range display and the guage still is on Full

I also used cruise control @70mph and didnt have to let off much for the trip.
And let me tell you what, DRAFTING WORKS, when passing a semi, My instant mpg would go up to the 30s
Dangerous to stay in that spot though!
How accurate do you think the Instant MPG is?

I took my crossbars off like two weeks ago and I have noticed a pretty big change in my mileage, but I also do 90% highway to work. I also filled up with Super and that seems to be making a difference too. I'm not sure how, but I usually have to fill up once a week, I haven't filled up since last Monday and I still have over 1/4 tank left. :m2:

I get 14-15 city, too.... but I expect that. Considering my truck is an I6 4x4, with the 4.10's and locking differential, it's putting the engine under considerable load. If I were getting that kind of mileage with the 3.42s or even 3.73s, I might not be so eager to sit back and take it.

I drove back and forth into Wisconsin over the weekend, 200 miles each way. 04 T/B Ext I-6 w/3:73's, 5500 miles on "odo", by myself, light luggage, interstate driving @ 70-85 MPH using cruise control 50% of the time, some two-lane @ 55 - 65 MPH (35 miles of the 200) = 20 -21 MPG... I went out to the truck as I jotted down the miles and gallons that day. I was interested as this was the first highway trip of any significance... 228.5 miles on 11.02 gallons of fuel. I agree with Charlie though, based on the weight of the vehicle, fulcruming the weight of the vehicle from every stop light with the I-6, idling, A/C etc. and the "in city" fuel economy figures plummet drastically. If I remember correctly, I was/am getting 11 -12 MPG in the city...major suction there!!!

'02 and '03 SWB to build date 08-08-02 have 18 gal tanks. '03's with build date after 08-08-02 have 22 gal tanks. LWB (XL & EXT's) have 25 gal tanks

18 and 21 (or 22) gallon tanks depending on the year and model, I think...
