View Full Version : Front Fenderwell Fasteners Missing / Detached?

While washing my SS this past weekend I noticed that under the front fenders, the plastic fenderwell liners are completely missing 3 retainers on each side! Is this normal? It almost appears as if they were left out on purpose but I cant be sure.
And the bottom most reward pushpins are not even attached to the liner itself. I pushed on the liners but the appear to be fairly secure without the fasteners but visually it looks awful.
I'll snap some photos and update tonight to show you what I'm talking about. Can someone please check their TB/SS for the same situation to see if it's a production issue or just me.
Thanks in advance.

I noted the same thing on my 2004 TB. I guessed that they were never supposed to be there. No apparent problems after 65K miles.

Good question. My TB is not an SS, but I have the same issue. I was going to replace the plastic pins, but couldnt get the plastic inner fenderwell to strecth to the fender holes, so I just left it. I agree it looks bad, and i'd be even more upset if I had an SS with this problem.

Nope, the Xmas Trees (push-in fastener) aren't supposed to be there. Don't fret it.

My Envoy was the same way. I didnt notice until I got it back from the bodyshop. I thought they forgot to put then back in. They swore they were never there. I went to the dealer to check because I was mad and thought they were blowing smoke up my ass, but they really arent supposed to be there.

Wow. That seems just plain silly to me but I guess if it's that way from the factory we can chalk this one up to GM quality. Thanks for the responses everyone.

They are not supposed to be there. They use the same fenders for other vehicles (Ranier, Bravada, etc.) and those vehicles have the stick on fender extensions. The holes are there to attach the extensions. The TB and TBSS don't use the extensions. They could've put in the same zip screws on the top as the bottom, but they don't show anyway..... I was pissed about it at first, but saw that all TB and TBSS's are like this.

Three plugs are missing on both sides of mine also. All of the wholes in the liner look much larger than the plugs. The liner looks a bit badly shapen too. It feels secure, but it certainly seems like a last minute cheap way to go. I will ask the dealer when I get my brackets next week.
Anyone have proper looking fender liners? I would sure like to get ones that fit properly.
