In a few days, Wait4Me Performance is scheduled to release a custom PCM tune for the 4.2L based on the EFI Live software. It should be better and cheaper than a "chip." :m2:

can you run both??

You could, but it would be stupid as the JET is crap compared to an actual tune. Believe me, I looked really hard at a JET chip last summer and said I will wait because it eventually goes back to near-stock settings.

Get a Wait4Me tune for a lot less and it is way better.

The PCM eventually compensates for the increased performance and slowly (I mean, this takes a long while) goes back to stock-like performance. Sounds weird, but there are a few guys here who have reported the chip loses power after a while. Once they switched to Westers, it cannot revert as there are no stock settings in the PCM anymore, muahhahahaha!!!:D

It's a PCM tune and you can either send him your PCM and he'll tune it and send it back for about $75 or so, or you can keep your stock PCM for a spare and he'll send you a tuned one for $157.50.

Do chips actually work? How can they increase performance and gas mileage at the same time?

Simple, they optimize the A/F ratio for better performance. The mileage comes out when you dont jump on the gas (which is really hard because its really fast now:laugh: ).

I installed my "Rapid Velocity" chip from eBay today. Sort of notice a difference, but nothing official that I can check.

Not to bash you are anything, but you should have saved your money and gotten a real tune. As stated previously in this thread, the chip will give a small improvement at first, then slowly return back to close to factory performance. Its just not worth it.:m2:

PCM is your Powertrain Control Module - or in other words your vehicle's computer nerve centre that controls the engine and transmission.

wait4me is a custom mail order tuning house. Check him out under supporting vendors. The usual process is you order a custom tune and it arrives pre-programmed in a PCM, so you just need to swap your current PCM with your wait4me PCM.

The term 'chip' stems from the 80's back in the days when PCM's did not have 'flash' memory that can be reprogrammed whilst the PCM is still fitted to the vehicle, back then an EPROM 'chip' needed to be removed from the circuit board to be re-programmed. Although it's a term that is still used, I don't think anyone actually "chips" anymore.

Lastly, technology is still changing, vehicle owners are wanting to modify the performance of their own vehicles. Vehicle enthusiests want the flexibility to change their tune when they want - it might be to limit the vehicle speed for a young driver, or to suit your wife, or it might be to show off to your buddies. With the numerous modifications you add, personal vehicle tuning is becoming more and more common. Our product, Flashscan is currently in Beta test for the I6, and yes the testers are having some fun!

Cheers

I have a cold air intake and magnaflow 3" cat back and the Jet stage one works awesome very happy with it.. My wife was driving us to birthing classes the other day and she told me she cant bleave the lil mods i did made it so much faster! I told her to floor it at about 35-40mph and it dropped a gear and jumped forward so hard it made her sware.. lol.. she only said holey $hit.. but she not the type to sware.. shes a 3rd grade teacher.. I'm allso getting alot better Gas mileage.. I normally use about a 1/8 tank of gas going to work and back now I use far less.. this is the frist week I have not had to refill 1/2 way though the week.. I only fill it about 1/2 tank at a time.

Get the stage one! you dont have to use 91... where with the stage 2 you have to use it. I run 91 but My wife allways buys the cheep stuff so it mixs out to about mid grade. if you get the stage 2 your truck will run like crap if you ever run cheep gas.
