After driving my wfe's truck last night i noticed the lights not burning at the selector switch. I've checked the fuses under the hood and under the rear seat. The switch does not change in to 4wheel drive so the lights aren't burn't out.Hopfully someone can give me some help on which direction to go,,thanks, Mike

I would say do a search for 4x4 switch problems. Lots of other threads have covered this very problem. The answers are deffinately here. Good luck.

try this (http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=4363&highlight=4x4+switch+problem)

From what I have read here, One trick is to disconnect the battery for a while, reconnect and see if it clears, if it doesn't, there are 2 or 3 other components that can be at fault. The dealership may need to test it out to find the right one.

If you just put the key to on (dont start the truck), can you hear the front axle disconnect motor *buzz and click* when you select 4hi or A4WD? No noise & I would suspect a bad front axle disconnect, AKA- shift on the fly actuator (SOTF). If you can hear the SOTF, but still no 4x4, then maybe its the transfer case encoder motor. The 3 key players in 4x4 issues is 1) selector switch, 2) SOTF actuator, 3) Encoder motor.

The '02s were known to have a module problem for the 4WD transfer case. I had one done about 3 years ago, replaced at the dealer.

Check this:

(Recall) 01064 OCT 01 Recall - Transfer Case/Control Module Check & Reprogram
(TSB) 05-04-21-002 MAR 05 Drivetrain - Transfer Case Control Module Replacement

Good luck...
