Hi! I just bought an 06 Trailblazer yesterday and i would like to tow a 70 Chevelle on a trailer about 20 miles. Can my tuck handle that ok? Looking in the manual it looks as though i could tow about 6000 lbs. I estimate the car to be 3500 and the trailer at 1200. Am i correct in thinking it could handle this.

Just make sure that you tow in "3" not "D". What axle ratio do you have? The higher numberd axles have higher tow ratings. Jay

3.73 or 4.10 gears would be better equipped, but it's not like you are going cross-country with it. 3.42's in 3rd gear max will be fine. The most important thing is stopping. Are you setup with electric brakes? Even without, as long as that 20mi isn't down a mountain, you are good to go.

I've towed my Buick with a car trailer over greater distances than that. No problem. I didn't have electric brakes either. Although they would be nice to have. I got the 3.73 gears for the towing capacity. But you should be OK.

I used to tow with my '92 Jimmy. If I can with that, than the Trailblazer is in a lot better shape to tow IMO. Heavier, more stable, better built truck.

You should be fine, 20mi isnt that far.

But, be careful as GM states you are NOT supposed to tow for the first 500mi on the ODO and then for the first 500mi you do tow to not go faster than like 50-55 and dont brake extremely hard.

I ended up towing at about 700-800mi at first, and didnt really pay attention to the speed limit thingy or the braking deal. I have 60K+ on the original brakes, tow 2 boats 4K and 3500lbs (both dry weight), and have never had a driveline problem.

And, especially with the 3.42 gears, tow only in 3rd, never D. I have a bunch of tranny upgrades going in this week that will allow me to tow in D, but only on the flats, up hills it will still be 3rd.

I agree with you, my old 96 Jimmy with the 4.3L V6 was pretty good at towing, but man could my TB run circles around it while towing. Also, the TB has more power and gets better mileage, so Im happy!!:D

I towed a '56 Bel Air back form Potomac, Maryland (about 180 miles one way) and had no problems. I have the I6 and middle ratio rear in it. Only problem was on the upside of the Delaware Memorial Bridge. Other than that, smooooth sailing. Just try not to exceed 45-50 MPH.
