Hey all, I got the new 20" ADR's with the Hankook Ventus tires installed at the end of last week. I know what is coming next, where are the pics at??? I have the pics at home, but I have to re-size and them upload them so that I can get them in my gallery, but they look AWESOME.
I am really pleased with how they turned out.
Yesterday we were driving home from some Easter events and I noticed that when I pressed on the brake pedal that I started to hear this squeak from the front axle. It wasn't a constant squeak, but more of a "pulsating" type. It only happens when I press the brake pedal in about half way, if I just barely tap the brakes or fully depress the brakes, the sound isn't there.
I do have 56k on this vehicle, so I am assuming that it is just time for brakes, but I didn't know if for some reason the new wheels were too tight, or if that would even have an effect on the brakes. I am clueless when it comes to brakes, so I am looking for lots of help on this one!!!!

Just to add to my post earlier, I talked with the shop that installed the wheels and tires, they didn't notice anything on the brake system when they installed the wheels.
His suggestion was to inspect the brakes, so I need to get the wheels re-torqued anyways, so he said that they would pull the wheels off and do a free brake inspection.
His thougths were that the fronts are probably just worn and need to be replaced. They use a brand of pad by Wagner. He shot me a quote of approx. $175 for the front (which includes new pad, turning the old rotors, etc.)
Is this a good price? And have any of you heard of Wagner?

I have 20" ADR Empire no problems after installing them last summer or any so far this year(put them on last month).

I have the 20" ADR Imperials, I don't believe that there are any problems with how the wheels are installed, I belive that it is a brake problem.
Hopefully tonight, I can spend some time and get the pictures posted.
Thanks

I am pretty sure that it is just the front brakes. I got the formal quote and the cost is $170, with $90 of that in parts, I would just like to know if anyone has heard of Wagner Pads?

Wagner are a pretty popular brand (they also make brake cylinders, brake fluid, etc.) I've seen them at part stores (pep boys, Kragen, Auto Zone etc.)...I just had my wifes brakes replaced and they used Wagner brake pads...so you should be ok....they did squeal for about a day and a half, but I've heard that is usually common on new brake pads (they get broken in), but I also had to get new front rotors too (she usually tell me she may need brakes after about a month of grinding:duh: )

I am just not familiar with the Wagner brand. The shop that I got the quote from is going to do an inspection tomorrow and then I will go from there. Are there any other brands of brake pads out there that will work well with the factory rotors? I hear everyone talking about Hawk pads, but I don't know of any others.

I've seen Hawk at pep boys, don't know anyone that has had them installed, but there are also other brands like Baer, Duralast, Powerstop, I could go on...maybe do a little research on some different brands and go with what you feel comfortable with, check with some car sites like Car and Driver, Motor Trend, or Edmunds to name a few and see what type of brakes pads have been tested or recommended:m2:

Anyone else have any comments on types of brake pads?
Used Wagners ( made by Federal-Mogul) on my s blazer, reasonably priced, no issues come to mind. :m2:

check to see if they are ceramic brake pads. the trailvoy came OE with ceramic pads if you put semi-metallic in they won't last long especially with the 20" wheel and tire combo. also the semi-metallic pads will make noise. also have them install a new hardware kit to hold the pads it will prolong the life of the pads and give you even wear. you may also inquire on a brake fluid flush as maintenance if you have not done one.

make sure you grease the slide when you install new pads.

The Wagner's that he quoted me are ceramic pads. I will have to ask about the new hardware kit, is it a big deal to have this installed? I dropped it off at the shop this morning, they are going to call me shortly and let me know what they find.

Would you guys suggest putting a set of Hawk pads on the factor rotors? I was planning on having the rotors turned and I had been quoted Wagner pads, but I have always heard good things about Hawk pads. Would there be a problem with putting these type of pads on the re-turned factory rotors? Let me know what you guys think ASAP.

Well, my local shop called and said that they had taken care of the brakes, but as it turns out, they didn't so I turned around and took it back!
But on a better note, I finally go some pictures in my gallery, so take a look. I don't know how to put pictures in threads!

Wagner is one of the only aftermarket brands of "over the counter" pads I'd use. As said earlier...make sure they are ceramics.
As far as pulsation felt when braking...that's due to warped rotors or a rotor that may have some rust build up on the mounting surface between the rotor and hub or the rotor and wheel. It is usually warped rotors though. The main causes of warped rotors are (not in order): Wheels not torqued properly (if you don't use a torque stick or torque wrench, they aren't torqued properly), running a hot rotor through high water, and mis-machining of the rotor face.
Today's rotors are usually pretty finicky about proper torquing of the lugnuts...GM even has bulletins out about proper torquing. Make sure ANYONE that has your wheels off uses a torque wrench or a torque stick extension on their impact.

Well, I got the vehicle back yesterday after taking it back to the shop and having the brakes looked at for a 2nd time. What they found was a TSB on "noisy" brakes. They removed the brakes, sanded the pads, lubricated, and then re-installed everything, and like magic, no squeaky brakes.
I also found out that I have a lot of life left on the brakes that I have, which is good news!!!
