I am thinking about starting a turbo project for the envoy next summer becasue i will be gone all this summer with the army and i was looking around at different sites seeing what there was to offer. One of my dream cars is a 69 camaro and its always fun to look but anyways i was looking at a vortech supercharger for a big block. I then went to the vortech website to get a better idea what type of engines they make it for and they dont make it for the I6 but they do make it for the jimmy and s-10. The whole point is that it doesnt sit on your intake but acts just like a turbo only instead of exhaust it is belt driven. It was mou nted like where our alt is. I was wondering if anyone else had seen these and wondered about the possibility of just custom mounting this thing under the hood instead of repiping everything for a turbo.

Sorry to break your bubble, but the 4.3L V6 and the 4.2L I6 engines are very different, so a S/C for the V6 wont fit the I6. Better bet is to fit a I4/I5 S/C to the I6 from a Colorado/Canyon/H3 instead as they are the same engine with cylinders lopped off.

as Scarab said.... the 4.3L V6 has the same blood as the 5.7L V8... but the V6 had 2 extra cylinders chopped off to save on fuel consumption

If someone wants to buy a supercharger kit for a Colorado, I'll do the fabrication and install on my TB... I volunteer myself as a guinea pig! Who wants to be my sugar daddy and buy me a blower?

Yeah i understand what youre saying about the I6 and the V6 but i was just wondering about the concept. One thing that i dont see as good thing is that the parts for a S/C are so expensive that the fabing that would have to be done would probobly make not worth the money. Plus nothing can substitute for the amazinf sound of a blow off valve.:D

True, I see what you are saying about a turbo, blow off valves sound sweet!!! Personally, that sound belongs on a sports car, not a truck. For my TB I would much rather have a supercharger because it gives more power down low where I need it for towing.
Also, since the kits have been already fabbed for the I4/I5, I doubt it would cost more than a couple hundred to fit it to an I6 (most expensive being engine management).

My 69 Camaro was one of the best muscle cars I ever owned. Wish I never sold it.

Oh how i wish i could afford one. My dad and i are considering a muscle car project in the future but theres something wrong with him becasue he doesnt like the 69 camaro body as much as the chevelle or the gto.:weird: Oh well.

I guess it's possible that that supercharger setup could work... those two engines have practically the same displacement, but you'd still have to take into consideration the compression ratio differences and how much boost you're going to run.
But the good thing is you don't have a manifold adapter to worry about since it's a centrifugal blower. But really the only useful part would be the blower. You'd still have to figure out how and where to mount it. And you'd also need to take into consideration fuel demands and ignition timing. Good thing EFILive and HP Tuners will come to our rescue soon.
I've considered finding a cheap Eaton M90 on ebay and fabbing something up, but the length of the snout seems like it'd be too short, and they don't make drive extensions like they do for Whipple blowers. I've also considered a Whipple W100AX blower, but those are $$$.
Once EFILive and HP Tuners finally release their tuning packages I think you'll really start to see some cool projects :)
