Always glad that I found this forum so long ago!
Wife's '02 (148K on it) Tblzr LTZ had the 'Check Engine Light' AND the 'Reduce Engine Power' light at the same time.
Checked code and it came out as P1484 (it also had an A after the number).
The OIL was down as well, actually seems to have gone thru about 1 1/2 qt! No smoke, no leak, and (until the 'reduced power' took over) no power loss. Engine temp and oil gauges were all NORMAL.
We have no 'roar' like we once had some 40K ago with the bad Fan Clutch. Was replaced with GM parts. Visually the fan is running at what seems normal speed. As I said, no excessive 'howling' or anything. We cleared the code and drove for 1/2 mile, BINGO, back on, both.
I'm concerned over the 'code' but ALSO over the oil use? That seems weird. As I said, no spots or leaks, no oil blowing or smoke, etc...
Seems like something is tripping it and I'm hoping I can gain some (once again) knowledge here... many thanks!

Did a lot of searching 'here' on possible solutions but stumbled across this thread: http://www.justanswer.com/questions/zx28-code-1481-and-1484-on-a-2002-trailblazer-new-fan "and" it seems to fit the issue? I also read "Fan clutch 101" and figured it wasn't a clutch.

At any rate, I dropped it back at my mechanics (and he's pretty good and always been upfront and fair) and told them what "I" thought (that's another reason I go there, he usually doesn't laugh ;^).
He was busy and one man short but I got a call about two hours later that the 'harness' had warn through exactly where the above diagram suggested. So it seems that the TSB was right on. Will advise if this fixes the codes and issues.
Still wondering about the oil. Just cannot believe it would have heated up that much to dump oil??? Or am I wrong on that? Thanks all.

The harness 'had' worn away in three areas and apparently that causes some form of short and also doesn't service the cooling issues correctly after that happens. Car did heat up very fast.
I've used Amsoil and good coolants and really tried to maintain the Tblzr so we're hoping nothing else goes wrong... goes wrong... goes wrong!

And to the left of my thumb is a small copperish shiny spot, one of three that caused the issues:
All seems fine now except I had to have a CA SMOG check and the 'monitors' or 'computers' had not reset - too soon after the thrown code and only about 12 to 15 miles on the system since code. Oh well... hope it works today. Take care.

Just wanted to say Hi to everyone, I am a new member. I was plagued with the dreaded check engine and reduced engine power lights for 2 years in my 2002 TB. I have read these forums before and was hesitant to take my truck to a mechanic because there are so many causes. I would lose power, disconnect and reconnect battery terminal to clear lights. Sometimes it would take an hour of intermittent attempts to work. Recently lights wouldn't clear. Mechanic ran diagnostics and couldn't find problem. He accidentally was moving throttle wires and watched the lights go on and off. It was a semi-broken tac wire, broken inside its own insulation. He soldered it and seems to be fixed. I do still hear 3 clicks occasionally like I heard before lights would come on. Sometimes makes clicking when turning airconditioner from heat to a/c and vice versa.sometimes clicks when radio and a/c off. Anyone know what the clicks are caused by? thought I read somewhere someone else was having clicking too?

Hi guys! I'm having the same problem with the SES and REP lights about a week now. I will look into the part listed above. For me the truck seems like it does lose power so I don't want to live with it for long. I will re-post once I get the part and install it. Thanks!

Hey guys! This exact same thing happened on our '02 GMC Envoy this past weekend, July 2013. Searched this forum and again found lots of valuable info on procedures & repair parts to use. Got the engine code reset at our local O'Reilly Auto Parts store.

Same thing happened to my wife's 02 ext. Will try the fan wiring harness first. Can you replace the harness without removing the fan?

You don't have to remove the fan completely, just take out the 4 bolts that holds it to the clutch fan to give yourself more room to work around to the front side of the clutch-fan assembly.
I also found this thread at a different site that provides additional info & pictures too.
The cost for this part was $85.22, (tax included).
Good luck and think about how much you're saving in labor costs!!!
