Hey,
How aften do u add the engine oil in ur envoy? I have a 03 envoy, and damn after 2 000kms the engine oil is low. I think its burning alot of engine oil, i talked to the dealership ppl last time i got the engine oil changed, and they said its normal for it since its a big truck. Toady i checked it and i think it was around 20% in there. So i added some more today. The envoy is always parked in the garage and am certain its not leaking.
Is this normal or is it my truck???

thanx

I don't know, but now I want to go check my oil level....

I add none. But I have owned Ford's and GM's that burn over a quart between oil changes. Most manuals say (to cover the companies butt) that between such and such amount can be normal. But to much means other problems.

I don't think its normal for you to keep on refilling your oil. I have an oil change usually every 6500 and before i do, i check the dipstick and it reads to full. I would suspect you have a worn-out piston ring. Is there any blue or white smoke that come out of your exhaust?...........I guess the people at the dealership are screwing you so have another shop check your engine. :m2:

It absolutly seems like something is wrong BUT, I add at least a quart to my 03 TB every 2000 miles or sooner if I decide to. The engines seems to whine when it is low, that is usually when i check it. I have talked to dealers in Colorado and Maine(both states I have lived in recently) and they both say that the new Vortec engines burn oil and it is not uncommon to add a qt. every 1000 miles or so. Also the dipstick sucks a$$ to read the level of oil. I don't know why they ever changed the crosshatched metal end dipstick

Mine has never used a drop of oil... I'd say something isn't normal there. :m2:

Oil useage or consumption is a fact....ALL engines burn oil. At what rate they consume has been a point of discussion for years. Different engine designs lend themselves to different consumption rates...ask any Chevrolet big block owner about oil consumption. I am a strong believer that allowable tolerances given within certain engine designs can affect consumption. Engines built on the "loose" end of the tolerance may increase consumption rates , while engine built on the "tighter" end of the tolerance result in a lesser consumption rate. Consumption is also commensurate with how the vehicle is driven. Hard acceleration, high RPM situations, higher numerically rear axle ratios lends itself to greater consumption rates. Can there be a mechanical deficiency creating this concern???...definitely. How you check you oil (consistency method) is important. I have seen some rear screw-ups...'04 Monte Carlo w/3800 V6 - missing cylinder #4 complete oil control ring..."02 Corvette Z06 - cylinders #2 & #4 piston ring gaps in total alignment...and I could go on. I have been fortunate to say every GM vehicle I have owned recently (last 10 - 15 years) have had normal oil consumption rates. I use approximately 1 quart of oil every 3,000 miles. I drive my vehicles easily - high speeds and high engine RPM operation is infrequent. Remember to check you oil frequently as operating an engine on a low oil level can cause damages as well as no oil in the engine. Anyone not checking their oil between oil changes is asking for trouble....

Yeah, let us know how it turns out. I hope they get you fixed up.

Just came back, i told them its not normal for this truck to eat up this much in just after 1000kms driven. I drive this envoy very carefully, i never let the rpms go above 2-3. Anyways, they said they will do a test on it and it takes $75 for the test and if they dont find anything they will charge $70 extra! i just came back, gm warrenty is having me rethink aobut the envoy, i sometime wish i should have bought the Armada. AM gonna go n try some other dealerships in the town and c if they say the same thing. I'll let u guys know how it turns out.

sory bout my grammer and spellin mistakes, am just kinda pissed off at these guys for the customer support they given me.

Mine burns it like it is it's job. I do have the rear differential gearing rate for towing. So if I am flying around it could be why mine burns so much. I do have a leadfoot

You mean you have the 4.10's, right? Hmm... I don't think I agree that being a leadfoot with 4.10s is the cause. Don't ask me how I know that (see sig) :o
