Tire Pressure Monitor Accuracy?

I discovered the TPM feature on my way home from work yesterday while sitting in traffic. It read between 43 and 44psi for each tire! I was planning to go out and check them again later with a couple different handheld meters, after they cooled down. Needless to say, I forgot. :duh: I thought of it first thing this morning after I pulled out of my garage. Too late to do anything but read the in-car display, though. According to the TPM they all dropped 4psi, but obviously still too high. How accurate is that thing? I'll try to remember to check it when I get home tonight, but if I know it's somewhat accurate, I'll drop it before I leave work.

Mine is DEAD on... 36 at temperature...you better let some air out.

With tire pressure over 40 PSI, you have got to be feeling every road joint. When dealer does the PDI they are supposed to check inflation. They come over inflated from the factory.

It's amazing what dropping 5psi does to the ride. Much less jarring now over bumps. And, my TPM is extremely accurate. Gotta love new technology. :thumbsup:

When I picked up my truck it had like 46 in the tires.

I just bought 2..that's right 2 , accutire pressure gauges and they both read exactly the same , down to the .5lb mark, and they aren't matching the display, the display is high or low sometimes, not the same, different days, different from the handheld ones, lower and higher, I would go by the Accutire gauge over the display any day..

I wondered about the TPM accuracy too. they dont match my handheld gauges but when cold my tires read 35psi, (where I run all my tires) and when hot they go to about 39psi on a 75 degree day after highway running.

my handheld gauges read about 1-3 lbs lower

Though this seems to vary widely with the tires climbing and dropping 1-2 lbs even while driving

Tony, who sells the accutire gauges? I am looking for an accurate PSI gauge.
