Got a question, and apologize if it has been asked before. Does taking SS drag racing, or any vehicle for that matter, void the factory warranty if GM catchs you? I do not have an tbss yet but did purchase a new GTO and am dying to take it to the strip! Has anybody had an issue or heard of someone that has. The last thing I want is to take my vehicle into the dealership for a warranty repair and them tell me sorry, not covered as on such and such a date you were at the drag strip and that voids the warranty.

I don't think they can do that, as long as you aren't modified.:m2: I could definately be wrong though.

if you break something or go in for warranty work, be sure to clean the rubber out from the wheel wells.

YES, that can void the warranty. I don't know if any of you guys follow imports, but when the Lancer Evolutions FINALLY came to the states a few years ago...Mitsubishi sent people to the strips to watch for Evo's, and keep notes so they could deny clutch and transmission claims from people abusing the vehicles.

Damn right they can VOID your warranty.I know one guy that was on a Mitsu. Forum and the fellow guys didn't like him very much. They copy and pasted all his posts about tracking his car and sent them to Mitsu. and his local dealer.Down right dirty. That's where the web can kick you in the GO NADS.

I've heard that they monitered the online forums as well.

That too...but I think forums, and watching people at the track and photographing license plates is 2 entirely different things. As for the members hating the one guy and telling the dealership about him, I remember that happening on a WRX forum also, but he had a HEAVILY modded wrx that he wasn't feeding enough fuel to... import guys suck sometimes

AHH LOVE THIS TOPIC i work a chevrolet dealer had a guy with a Z06 corvettte who broke his 6spd transmission 3 TIMES drag racing, his argument was- what good is a high performance car if it keeps breaking, he bought the vehicle to drive it hard and does not sate in his owners manul that would void his warranty they did finally warranty his trans but it took a lot of bitching

My V-8 Rainier runs 20.5 1/4 mi et @ 66mph and I've never been above 68mph on the street.

I'm pretty sure all warranty books say not valid if you are racing. This is where I would have to agree with the auto companies somewhat. They didn't design the cars for racing so you should expect to pay the price to fix it if it is broke during racing. I know most insurance companies wouldn't cover an accident if you are racing also.

What pisses me off is when they try to deny your claim due to "aggressive" driving. Cadillac is known to do that with their CTS V. One mechanic even said they can tell how hard you are driving the car by downloading the engine speed.

I heard about the EVO story also. The one I heard was a Utah guy that was denied an $8000 engine repair claim because he was caught racing in SCCA Solo II or something like that. Mitsu even got accused of crusing the internet sites looking for people bragging about their times.

I've never been to the dragstrip. Planning on it this weekend. Are you allowed to remove your liscense plate when at the track?

I recently scanned my vehicle insurance policy. My insurance is void if drag racing. When you go to the track you have to sign away all claims against the track, etc. Bottom line NO insurance at the track. Not very comforting when the guy next to you can blow an engine, drop a drive shaft, etc,

Seems better to street race, then the insurance company would have to prove you were racing.

Sad,,but true

+1. It almost seems like there is less of a risk doing it in the street.

A "friend" of mine blew and engine on an old turbo DSM. He simply removed the upgrades and bought a new throttle body where the NOS hole was drilled. No evidence. Warranty honored. Shady? Maybe. But that's how I roll, lol.

I loathe Mitsubishi's service dept. They refused to honor the RECALL I had on the GSX for the transfer case leaking and locking up just because I had rims on the car. Part of me wished the rear end would lock up when I was on the highway and lead to an accident just so I could sue the balls off of them! :hissy:

Heard on other threads and forums Mitsubishi will refuse warranty for any excuse that they can come up with. Don't let your washer fluid bottle run dry if you have a Mitsubishi

Yea my buddy has an Evo and after 2500mi its clutch was done. Anyone who knows these cars knows the factory supplied clutch is a weak POS. Anyhooo he took it into the dealership they looked in the logs and said sorry, first of all its a wear item (huh?? 2500mi) secondly they noted that he was launching it at 3000rpms which is unsatifactory use under warrantee specifications.
Ok so I get that its abuse....I just think big brother is watching LOL..
