I know someone else posted something about this but I can't find the thread. Anyway, I still can't believe my eyes. I hadn't checked my average MPG in like a week, but the last time I checked it I was dead even at 12.6 MPG average over like the last 2000 miles, and had been for several weeks. Well, lastnight I checked it and it had jumped to 13.1 for absolutely no reason. I haven't changed my driving habits, I haven't been on the interstate, nothing has changed other than the weather is hitting the 90's down here, and I have just over 4000 miles on the clock now. This is 100% city driving. I can't wait to see if it keeps getting better, but really, this is the strangest thing I have seen a car do in a long time. I've even been running with low PSI in the rear tires from the last time I went to the track. I just haven't gotten around to airing them back up. Anyone else seeing something like this with their trucks?

Engine getting a little looser. Do you buy the same brand of gas from the same gas station each time?

I find that warmer weather gives me better gas mileage

My first tank I got around 13.5mpg. I just filled up the second and it showed 14.1. This is mostly mixed driving, but I'm very impressed. My Envoy was only averaging around 15mpg.

Stuck at 13.6 over the first 3200 miles so far. This truck definitely leans towards the gas stations when I pass them.

Wonder if the change over to 10% Ethanol has anything to do with the mileage increase??

With 10% ethanol in the gasoline, mileage will likely decrease about 5%, not increase. Ethanol has about 78,000 BTU of energy per gallon, vs gasoline 120,000.

Well thats not good news....Sounds like I will be lucky to get 13 MPG now that we have switched over to Ethanol for the most part here in VA:crazy:

Gotta love it.:duh: :duh: Higher gas prices and lower MPG. :hissy: :hissy: Meanwhile the oil companies are laughing all the way to the bank.
Even the Federal and State governments are getting more tax revenue, more gas sold more gas tax collected :suicide:

Should be interesting as prople accumulate miles with this stuff, and what the results will actually be. Here in DFW the Shell I stopped at last week had a new sticker that said "May contain up to 10% Ethanol" and with the federal waiver they are talking about, I wonder just how much ethanol we will be getting.
Next time I fill up I might put a sample in a small container and test it for alcohol content just to see how much ethanol is really in the gas. This can be done very easily.
This is from a Feb '06 Popular Mechanics article...
"Get a tall, skinny vessel and add a measured amount of ordinary ethylene-glycol-based antifreeze to it. Fill to a level you can check easily, even if it's just a grease pencil mark. The vessel should be about one-third full. Sight to the bottom of the meniscus, not the high point where the liquid wets the wall. Add a similar amount of your suspect gasoline. Cover the top of the vessel and invert it carefully about a dozen times. Do not shake. Allow the mixture to stand for an hour or so to let the bubbles coalesce. Any alcohol--methyl or ethyl--will migrate to the glycol layer on the bottom. If the meniscus stays at the same level, you have pure gasoline. If the meniscus goes up about 10 percent, you have legal oxygenated fuel."

Unlike F ... F ... F..., ah heck, the four letter car company, Chevys have a tendancy to increase fuel mileage more as they break-in. You might be seeing just a combination of things - one of which is the engine breaking in. Ethanol will reduce MPG slightly though.

I think you're referring to my post about fuel economy going up.
The net of that thread was that the gas stations have changed from winter to summer blend AND that the TB's are programmed to run a fat mix until about 4000km's as part of the break in.

I have approx 3300 miles on my TBSS. Gas mileage on the DIC is 15.6 mpg. Gas mileage by pen/paper/calculator is 15.87 mpg. Shell V-power, 93 octane, 10% ethanol. I'm in Missouri. Last fill up $2.97/gallon.

If I've been driving, DIC says 15 to 15.5 mpg.
When my wife drives, it zooms to 16.5 & above:o
What's stupid is, actual miles (divided by gallons used) calculations after fill-up yields around 14 mpg in either case.

Last weekend I reset my mileage on the DIC and at 3200 it was an average of 15.6 MPG. On a trip to Tulsa,Ok. I averaged 19.5 going up and about 18 coming back running the cruise and A/C. Not the best but good enough for me.:)

Im getting around 12.5 right now with about 2000 miles on the TBSS. Mix of stop n go and highway driving. I also have a lead foot and accelerate off every light and on every street, so that doesnt help. Love driving it so I dont care.
Little tip, fill up at half a tank, it doent seem to hurt the wallet as much, at least in my mind it doesnt :)

Hotter weather will get you better mileage. The fuel is less dense but the same volume is injected.
