So I'm on my way home with a full load in the back of my envoy, carting some stuff out of my grandfather's house last-minute since we're closing on it Friday (sold after he passed away), and I round a curve to go under an underpass. Just as I get around it, I see a gold Buick LeSabre up ahead in my lane slam his brakes and start to swerve a bit. Just a split second later I see a red Pontiac Trans Sport van appear around the other part of the curve (it's kinda like an s-curve) and the two vehicles collide, blocking both lanes.

So of course I stop and get out, calling 911 as I'm walking over to the cars to check on people. After discovering that the people are ok (from what they said at the moment) I walk over to talk to some other guys who stopped right after me and didn't see what happened. The one guy had apparently walked over to look into the van (it was comming the wrong way down a one-way 2-lane road) and discovered some half-empty, and open, beer bottles. So, obviously a drunk driving accident. The stupid thing is, the two ladies in the van (late 20s to early 30s in age I'd say) had TWO LITTLE KIDS IN THE VAN WITH THEM. Nither of the girls could've been more than 4 or 6 years old.

After the cops showed up they called for ambulances, it turned out the guy driving the buick (mid to late 50s in age, by himself) had whiplash and the lady riding in the van had some kind of cracked rib or something. They hauled the lady who was driving the van off in handcuffs; I'm guessing she blew a brethalyzer over the legal limit. What's funny is I saw her go back to the van before the cops got there, I think she may have been trying to ditch the beer. Too bad it could easily be smelled on their breaths, or so I noticed after getting close enough to see.

I just can't believe how stupid some people are, driving drunk.... no, driving WHILE DRINKING with little kids in the car. I hope the kids get taken away from their parents and the parents never get to drive again. That is the purest example of being incompetent and ignorant. Man am I pissed.

Oh, and here's a couple pics I snapped off (I was inside my truck at the time and didn't want to draw attention, so sorry they suck from low light, plus it was sprinkling a little bit).

Nah, I was a bit farther away than that when the impact happened. By the time they would've been around the curve, I could easily have switched lanes and come to a stop out of the way. If it HAD been me though.... I don't even want to speculate on that one. Not only would I have been pissed about my truck, but about the ignorance of these people when it came to their kids. There's just no excuse for that kind of behavior.

I will say that from the little bit of looking I did get to do up close, both of those vehicles are totalled. Frame horns were bent and the engines appeared to have suffered severe blows. I actually heard the buick's motor still trying to crank right after the impact, it did not sound pretty at all. :m2:

I could see this road being an issue if you are drunk, when your sober and its the first time you go down this road you have to put a little thought into which way to go. I still can't believe that these biotches had there kids in there while they threw back back a couple cold ones.

 I didn't even realize there was another member from Lansing on here

I assume you know what road that is based on the pics; where N. Larch splits off to become Grand River Ave. and Northeast St. -- it's a one-way for that entire chunk (at least it is at present; who knows what will happen after all that sewer separation stuff gets completed. I already see some changes they made when putting it back together) so I really don't know how they could've gotten onto that section without ignoring some traffic signs farther back past the railroad tracks (More near to Turner St.)

I go through that area every day going home from work; I've NEVER seen anything like this before.

What area of Lansing are you in?

I feel sorry for the kids, having to be in an accident at such a young age. As for the adults, they should be put in jail. I am (and get) really mad at people who do this sort of thing. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...

Yah its a two way road then you can turn to the left, but you have to make sure you turn onto the right road, there are "Do Not Enter" signs. Actually I live right off of Turner so I know that little section pretty good.

Not that the rest of you don't have to deal with bad drivers, but if you can drive here in the tourist capitol of the world, then you can drive almost anywhere. ;)

Hmm... wonder why I haven't seen your truck around; I think I would know if there were a nicely modded TB running around that I had seen -- especially since I've never seen a truck with the borla exhaust on it in person. :m2:

You don't want to see my exhaust  One pipe is lower than the other. Trying to make the two pipes level is one of my projects during the two weeks I am off work. I am always getting harrased about my unlevel exhaust. Not to mention my sissy 16in rims. Also I work 2nd shift so we probably don't drive at the same times.

hmm... off two weeks... do you work at the Craft Centre (SSR plant)?

If you ever need help with anything on that truck (like the pipe leveling) just give a shout. :m2:
