Alright..... this picks at me a bit. I just came out of a Subaru into the TB this week. :)
This advertisement is VERY true, that little truck will SMOKE down the road, surprising everyone who sees it, Subaru's have a very respectable 60 foot time, and even a respectable 0-60 time, 1/4 miles.... not too bad, anything over 100 mph and the torque just isn't there.
Summary: Any Subaru with a hood scoop, watch out - it's quick!! No hood scoop.... watch out for front mounted intercoolers, very quick.
Actually, the Forester XT has been around longer than the SS.....and they're pretty quick. Subaru's hp claim is actually VERY conservative by around 20 hp.....its the same engine being dropped into the heavier Legacy GT & Outback XTs. My sister has one of the non-turbo 2003 and it isn't half bad for the money, nor has it needed any maintenance other than oil changes & tires in 60k miles. (No where near as plush as my Envoy though).

The motor in that truck is a dumbed-down version of the WRX STI's motor, also minus the drivetrain VCCD changes and such.
Subaru's with hood scoops, watch out!

Horsepower is not there, small boxer 2.5L. My subaru was mad up to about 80 mph, then it died off due to lack of displacement.
Fun way to lose your DL though!

the wrx that I'm looking into for my fiance (not the STI, but the one right below it) has a power to weight ratio just above the TBSS, so theoretically the TB should smoke it.
In reality I'd say the WRX would take it, especially the WRX STI.

Thats exactly what I traded in for my 04 TB. 60 feet, WRX would embarrass a heavier TB, 0-60, close but the WRX would prevail slightly if driven properly, 1/4 mi. very close, probably the TB at that point, anything beyond that CID will kick in, TB all the way even to top speed where my WRX only hit 143.
Now, talking cornering and autox, we won't go there

I don't think so...show me the Stock Forester XT that runs 13.5's @102 all day long and I will apologize....my friends Father in law has one, it's fast but it aint as fast as these (mine at least) and you have to drive the Sh*T out of that thing to make it do the deed...
and at the track I smoked a WRX with work done to it 13.50 to his 13.67 @99 with a 1.8 60'...reeled him in and was going around him nicely by the 1/8mi...back in the staging lanes his friend was busting his chops about getting beat by a wagon!! (guess this truck isn't as cool to the ricer crowd?)

:iagree: I have a friend that owns an WRX and its just not comfertable when i sit in it. He has so many gauges in it that i once asked him if he could tell me the weather on MARS.:rotfl: Now, It may be fast, but speed isnt everything.

I agree with you there man. I wanna see about getting a few ATVs next sand season. Lets see if a WRX can tow them to Glamis. Maybe thats why they have such a huge wig, its to hook up the hitch to it and tow.:rotfl:

Easy Tony :)
First, I never said a Forester XT would run a 13.5.... it won't stock. Yes you do have to drive the sh*t out of these cars to get those numbers. My response was on a WRX, not a Forester if you read what I quoted prior.
Second, everything thing I said about a WRX performance vs. a TB's performance you completely agreed with in your reponse! 60 foot, TB is reading plates, 0-60 close with the WRX taking it, 1/4 mile.... close but the TB will previal.... anything further to top speed, probably the TB due to CID count.
Why did I waste my time typing this again?? :duh:
One other thing, don't associate me with the ricer crowd.... for one I am an ex-WRX owner who now has a TB and besides, the only thing associating Subaru with rice is they are Japanese.... rice is generally defined by mis-colored body panels, huge aluminum wings (on FWD at that), blue headlights, stickers and fart can exhausts.... NONE of which you will find on a base $20,000+ Subaru! Look around and tell me different. There is a WIDE gap between a kid and a civic and a owner of a Subaru.

Just my :m2:
Suburu WRX (STI) kicks ass. It may have a big wing, but it goes fast for its price range. I would not consider it rice, because to me, as long as it goes fast, its not really rice. :m2:

Don't understand the hating going on. The Impreza WRX STi is an amazing vehicle. If you don't agree with this, you probably haven't driven one. :undecided
I test drove one when I was shopping (got the TBSS). Eventually I will own an STi. There's just no way I would have a 6-speed for my daily driver.

I had a sti wrx with a gt35r kit and ran high 10.90@127 on race gas and 29 psi and 11.40s@120 on pump gas at 24psi and it was a fun car. handleing was the best and even my die hard american car buddies liked it. racegas was 552hp/505 tq at wheels and very streetable
our budy has the xt with a full turbo back exhaust, intake, pulley and tune and runs consistant 12.60s. that set him back about 1300 and its a fun car.
here goes my old sti

I so hate to hate. My 05 Impreza (F4 - T/I 250HP) - fun car, my 82 Camaro (yeah... BB, high-rise, dual quads 600+HP) - fun car, my 79 Regal (SB - 4-barrel 350+HP) - fun car, I liked them all.
Now a TB, I like this one too!!!
American horspower, Japanese horsepower, big motors, small motors... T/I - N/A.... they were all unique and fun in their own ways.
Stay open to all things, it keeps your karma from narrowing
For those who posted the Scoobs - nice cars, brings back memories for me ;)

I wanted a WRX badly...but my left knee didn't have much room - the door pull really squashed it...stupid manufacturers don't take big (or as I like to say, "normal") sized people into account.
It's hard to bad mouth Subaru if you've *ever* watched a rally...

I have to agree, the WRX's and STI's are really nice cars. Before shopping for a SS/SRT8 I was originally looking at getting a blue 2006 STI. I loved the looks, it was comfortable to sit in and the gas mileage was appealing. The big problem was that STI's in Canada are extremely expensive (54K after GST) due to the fact that the Evo cannot be sold here. The dealers have no problem selling it for whatever they want, because if someone wants one, they've got absolutely no negotiating power.
If it was 10k less, I would have instantly bought one instead of the SRT8, but at that the current price I'd like alot more options and luxuries for a longterm vehicle. Plus finding 93 octane gas in my area is near impossible anyhow.
There's a new limited edition STi coming out for 2007: 2007 Limited Edition (http://www.subaru.com/sub/misc/2007/sti/index.html)

The HP cut was due to the fact that the rating is now an SAE Certified HP rating. Previously it was SAE Net, thus the original rating was being exaggerated by a tad.
