well after a long discussion with a good tech I got some good info.

Ok i did a mandrel bent 3 inch exhaust with the 5x8x18 case length magnaflow and its pretty loud. So we started talking about resonation and a smaller muffler in at least 1 case would be quieter than a bigger case one because of surface area.

So list goes like this. From the biggest to smallest muffler bigger being quieter smaller being louder.

5x11x22
5x8x24
5x8x18
4x9x18
5x8x14 << smaller muffler total area then 4x9 case so will be quieter
4x9x14

He told me that on a 3 inch set up since the tbss is one piece not split off like a truck with no resonator and mandrel bent like i did recommends he said the 5x11x22 will be good especially since its all 3 inch and no resonator.

On my 5x8x18 (24 overall length) its loud and honestly for everyday driving some might think its to much.

If you guys do a custom 3 inch set up stick with the 5x11x22 or 5x8x24 and honestly doing all 3 inch does make a big diff in sound. The same muffler i had welded in a customers truck with stock tubing and resonator taken out was not as loud or as deep.

Just a heads up for you guys when deciding to buy mufflers.

Norcal, great info and its great you provide feedback to this forum regarding your conversation with Magnaflow.

I do have a question for Norcal and want others opinions. I went today to get an estimate for my exhaust work on my 06-SS. I have heard that guys in here have done the mandrel bends, etc and this is where my question arises. My buddy whos one of the best in area for doing custom exhaust told me today that going with the Magnaflow Part #12589 along with all stainless etc doesn't need all the mandrel work. He asked me right away..... " Are you going to drag race it" I laughed and said no, but i do want it to sound sik and be clean at same time. Well bottom line is he said i can go with the muffler setup w/all stainless with it, but don't need to spend the xtra $ if iam not racing it. I said well what if iam racing on streets, lol. He said iam fine with this setup...
Overall cost would be 300 bucks out the door.
So what do others think?????

I have the 5x8x24 inch stainless case. I was going back in forth between the 5x11x22. The 5x11x22 is the muffler they use in most of their trucks. I wanted a tad louder. Once i get the exhaust fabbed up then i will post a video w/sound. Mandrel bent piping will increase the flow up to its highest potential which equals more hp. I would do mandrel bent. Not that much more money.

hes charging 300 bucks for just the muffler installed?

3 inch not mandrel bent will be all kinked if they try to use a regular bender.

lol.... uhhh Norcal i was born at night but not last night, lol.. Hes doing the Magna #12589 with all stainless steel piping along with hangers. This guy will not even kink a tube as hes to well known for his work. When i get it done i will post pics of undercarraige along with clips so everyone can get an idea of mandrels vs no mandrels, lol. Its easier to show than to try and convince what it will feel and sound like through here.
