Well I just got back from the local Jeep dealership and man I haven't been this happy with my SS since the day I picked it up. My brother gave me a heads up that they had a silver SRT8 Jeep on the lot, so I buzzed up there at lunch to check it out under the guise that my wife is looking for an SUV (which she sort of is....). Anyway, while I was checking it out a sales girl walked up. She was very helpful, but didn't know much about the Jeep other than that it hauled butt. Suprisingly, she says "Oh, you have to drive this thing to really appreciate it." So, who was I to say no? She grabbed the keys and away we went.

There is no doubt, the Jeep pulls pretty hard. I immediately floored it pulling out of the dealership because the salesgirl told me to. To Jeep's (or should I say Mercedes) credit, the transmission shifts are buttery smooth compared to the SS. It definitely did NOT snap your neck on the shifts, but at the same time it also didn't feel like it was pulling as hard as my SS does after I got it tuned. I would kill to line up next to this thing on the street and have a go at it. I am absolutely convinced I could hang with it if not pull it. I know it only had 60 miles on it, but I seriously expected more. The seat of the pants meter left me feeling unimpressed in comparison to my own truck.

My impressions are this, the Jeep is a nice, fast SUV. However, I think the Trailblazer SS looks nicer, and definitely has a nicer interior in some aspects. The SRT8 had cloth inserts in the seats compared to our suede. The SRT doors had plastic to our leather. The gauges in the Jeep are nicer looking, but the A/C knobs are really plasticky and the A/C isn't even digitally controlled. I don't care what the reviews say, the interior of the Jeep is NOT nicer than the SS.

As for performance, the Jeep pulls harder stock, but with a tune it would bare minimum be a driver's race if not in the SS' favor. The Jeep rides a little stiffer, but for someone who wants a performance vehicle it is very liveable especially since the Jeep shifts much smoother.

Bottom line, when you factor in the price of $50,969 for the Jeep including the $4000 markup, you would have to be smoking crack to choose the Jeep over an SS. She flat out told me they would not budge on that price since this is their first one, and being that it is the first every one of those 60 miles were put on the truck by an employee test driving it and absolutely flogging the snot out of it. She said a few people had come in to look at it, but nobody had expressed a serious interest in it at that price, I know, shocker.

Long live the SS!!!:p

those Jeeps don't open up until 500mi or more, there's supposedly some electro/nanny keeping the wide open throttle to 70% or so, at least that's what they claim, and from what I have seen at the track, I would believe it, cause they run low 13's with anyone driving them..

The manual climate control in the Jeep is one of the things I really liked about it. The computer climate control in my 05 Silvy is annoying and unneeded. Having straight forward dials for temperature and fanspeed is much more convenient. I found the interior layout of the jeep to be much more comfortable. Everything was within easy reach and convenient eye level and it didn't feel as claustrophobic.

From everything I've read or heard, the nanny control stays until 3000 mi, then it opens up for balls to the walls driving.

This is also what I heard. I also hear there is now a PCM tune and a programer now available.

Haha should live in Canada then. The Jeep is cheaper than the Trailblazer SS if you keep your eyes open! It's hard to justify the money for a TBSS, lol!

yeah i test drove one the same day i tested my ss and I agree. the only thing i liked better was that the seats were more supportive while making sharp turns, but i owned a 98 GC with the 5.9l and that thing flew but gave me sooooo many problems and was by far the worst thing i ever owned I promised myself that I would NEVER buy a jeep again.

I test drove a JGC SRT8 when I was shopping for a performance SUV, and I was notvery impressed with it... I am a big human being (6'3'' 290 former D-1 TE) and the I just could not find a comfortable driving position in the Jeep... The TB SS however was perfect, which was why I ordered one...:)

Plus the Jeep owners can say what they want about us having to mod to beat them, but hell I'll have only paid $28,500 total for my vehicle, the VM tune, CAI, and the Yank 3600 converter...Bang for your buck: hands down it goes to the SS... I bought the TB SS based on the availibility of aftermarket performance parts to make it as fast as possible... And it is gonna be a while before we see any good mods for the JGC....

Also, one of my friends bought the Jeep I test drove, and can't wait til I get the TB SS so we can go around and take out all the ricers and damn Mustangs, Camaro's and Trans Am's that think they are hot sh*t...

Good question, it appears that when Chevy's cross the border the price gets jacked up. Because a loaded SRT8 w/o nav was cheaper than a SS w/o nav. And a loaded SRT w/o nav was nearly the same price as a unloaded SS with only the bose stereo and mp3 player.

Oh, you guys will love this, I can't believe I forgot to mention it in my first post. I was showing the sales-girl my SS, and she liked it a lot. She didn't even know Chevy made something like that. The next words out of her mouth almost made me pee myself...."So what, does it have a HEMI in it or something????"
