I've been calling every local junk yard trying to find a 4l60e transmission to put in my TB. They all tell me that only a tranny from a similar 2002 TB/envoy will work. I know this is complete BS. So I was wondering if anyone knows which year/models of chevy vehicles I could us for a donor transmission? Thank you

If you change the bell housing then any 4L60/65/70 from '02 to '06 will fit.

full size PU's vans etc....

You WILL need a special bit to get the Q@WE@#!@#$!@# SOB bell housing bolts out. SNAP ON sells them. What ever you do DONOT USE A TORX T-50 you will regret the day you did.

I think the bit is a IP50.

I believe you also may need to swap out the output shaft or tail on the tranny as well, if the doner is from a 4x2 or RWD vehicle. The output is different on a 4x4 vs a 4x2, the 4x4 feeds the transfer case the 4x2 goes directly to the driveshaft. Other than that and the bell-housing, pretty much all 4l60/4l70/4l65 derivatives are the same.....which is to say they're all based on the same 200R4 tranny. Just be sure its an 'E' derivative to mate up to the electronics. I know there are shops locally around here that advertise a rebuilt 4l60e in either 4x4 or 4x2 trim with corvette servos, beefed sunshells and such for around $550 with a 2 year warranty. You might want to check your area for something similar and put in a beefier tranny than stock, which is what I'll do when/if my breaks. (The '02 models have weak sunshells, so its only a matter of time).

Yup know all about that torx plus junk. I rebuilt mine before but somehow when my rear diff blew my tranny went with it. I replaced those bellhousing bolts with regular hexhead bolts. The 1996 and up 4l60e's have the same electronics. So would those work as well?

No - the input shaft changed when the LS/Atlas engines came around.

If your looking at the input shaft the one that works is straight in the splines - no step.

I thought that the end past the splines (with o-ring & metal check-ball in end) was for the lock-up converter....
EFI-DIY, do you know the Snap-On part # for the tool you were referring to for removing the bolts from the bellhousing??? Thanks....

Hey brad did you take any photos of your tranny? If you did could you post a pic of the input shaft. For the torx plux at snap on its Ftx50tpe. From snap on it costs $27. I bought a set from ebay. Then replaced the bolts with regular hex bolts.

After doing some looking at the Torx Plus sockets, I realized that they are different from standard Torx (besides having more rounded corners) in that in standard Torx sizes, both regular and tamper-resistant are 6-pointed.....In the Torx Plus sizes, regular sizes are 6-pointed and tamper -resistant sizes are 5-pointed...... The auto manufacturers, fasteners suppliers, and tool Co's have to make sure that we are constantly having to add to our tool collections......

So an 07+ transmission is not compatible? What changed between the years?
