My first run was a 13.5@99mph as the car heats up it seems to slow down the next 7 runs were all 13.7@99mph with the same 60ft times every time @1.9. Does anyone else seem to have this inconsistency? I have been to the track twice this year and it has done the samething.

As I have brought up in another thread, try to shut off your engine when you can to help it cool off. Also, pull the hood latch lever so that there is some space for the heat to escape from under your hood. Heat will slow any vehicle down, especially a V8, since they create so much more.

Those are damn good times though. What mods do you have done to it?

Also, from what others are saying, the air sensors and temp sensors or whatever they were talking about need to be insulated from the heat. The heat causes the sensors to pull the timing and slow it down

I do shut it down and even open the hood in between runs and it still doesnt work. i am not real impressed with the intake/airbox set up with this car i am looking into a cai from vector motorsports. Its a stock awd with a tune from vector.

LMAO...I almost $hit myself when I saw your times...until I read the rest of the follow up posts to see you had a Vector Tune...Our AWD is bone stock right now...Tune will be coming with the CAI within the next month or so I am hoping. I have been tweeking my new G35 Coupe for the last 2 months and left the SS all stock...but to run in the 13s like I did bone stock was just about the biggest smile inducer I could have had.

Nice to see your times w/the tune. Did you get the 93 Octane Tune? Have you had any issues whatsoever? IE, knocking/pinging, Detonation, Check Engine lights, etc? With the SS being my wife's daily driver she's worried about all that stuff.

We should head up there some time together soon...Where are you located?

Obsessed,

Do you know where any of this stuff is located so I can thermal wrap it? Thanks.:)

I cant say enough about Vector motorsports. Kirk was great to work with. I have there tune i am not sure about what octane tune it is he didnt say but i do run 89 to 91 octane on the street and 93 at the track and there is no noises at all. the tune is night and day better than stock but as far as your wife goes the only difference she will notice is the shift firmness but its not obnoxious. I am located in southern nh, you?

It's on the actual induction tubing and should be closer to the mass air sensor. Someone recommended puting it inside the actual intake, but I dunno how, unless they make a kit for it.

I have been looking at different blankets and wrapping to figure out how to wrap it. I still honestly think that wrapping the exhaust manifold, or better yet, having them heat coated, will dramatically decrease the temp under the hood. A buddy of mine had his Harley headers done and the temp of the outside of the pipes had decreased by 190 degrees.

Chelmsford...After I get the tune we should head up some night. There are at least two other SS's in MA, one expressed interest in getting togetehr up there some night, and he has a VM tune too, but he never got back to me. Thanks for the info on the Tune...good to hear local follow up that's positive.

Oh, ok...I had my head up my ass...I did that to my G35 intake...I did it in two parts...First I got the thermal wrap from Home Depot that has the foam with adhesive on one side and then the aluminum heat sheald on the other...it's nice, but rough looking...so then Second, I ordered the Thermal Tape from Summit Racing that is made of this stuff...they also sell intake tubing wraps there too...so I would check out Summit Racing for all that stuff.

On my G35 the entire Airbox is double wrapped, then the MAF is wrapped and while driving around on the street I use a nice short ram CAI tube from K&N that is powder coated, but when I go to the track I swap in the plastic 350Z tube that is completely thermal wrapped. The also sell Throttle Body coolan bypass valves which keep the coolant from heating up the plenum...I am sure all this will come to the SS soon enough.

Nice times!!! The best I got was 13.6 @ 101 I too had the Vector tune and am AWD. I just got the CAI from Vector and the CAI tune. Looking to go Wed. to the track. I will let you know the difference. I dont think it will be any better since it was 49 degrees when I got that time, Should be in the upper 60s Wed night.

There should be a way to bypass the throttle body if you rig something up. I never understood these things. They are only put on there so that the engine warms up faster, but once it gets to normal running temp., it works against the engine.

I actually put a large bolt into the tube in my old mustang to stop the flow through it. Not really recommended, but it was a straight racer, so I didn't care. Junk yard jewel, if you will, not really made for daily functioning.

I didn't know Summit had those, so I'll check them out. I found some good thermal wrap on another site, it's really high grade stuff and made for industrial settings, but it was really expensive.

The intakes are a composite on the LSx engines. The throttle body is aluminum. I believe that the major reason for the coolant to run through the throttle body on these is for icing conditions. Yes icing. Or I should say to ward it off and keep the throttle body plate from sticking. Don't ask me what conditions cause this, etc, I don't know, just passing along what I heard. ;) Aside from the throttle body getting hot, the intake is still composite. :)
