Guys have bought a 2003 Envoy SLT Has blackouts on the tail and headlights and hood and roof plastic installed.

Want to try and get a little more snap and bet  ter mileage in Canada our gas is up to $ 4.65 per gallon - wicked!

What are best investment payback choices with about $ 1500 to spend?

intake, exhaust, throttle body spacer. I got the throttle body and intake for under 300 bucks and i'm getting an extra 40 miles out of a full tank now.

I think there is only one manufacturer of a TB spacer -- Poweraid. :m2:

Ummm, I am getting 22.5mpg (hwy) with only a spacer and K&N filter, so I think the spacer is helping my truck out a little.
I was getting around 18mpg on the highway before any mods, so they have really helped me at least.

Thinking about an Airaid intake though...

I have seen a knockoff one on ebay a few times, as well as JET has one now as well. I have the Poweraid, and thats the one I would recommend. :)

I get 19-20mpg with my V-8 EXT 4x4. 22 on my last trip to my Dad's in Idaho, granted I had a small tailwind.

Just about any aftermarket accessory will not be cheaper in the long run. You may save a little on gas, maybe 1 mpg if you are lucky. But it'll take a long time to make up the $70 in cost.

Some filters allow more airflow but they also allow more junk to get by into the engine.

The best things you can do if you want to save gas is keep your vehicle properly maintained. Changing to synthetics helps. If anything it is better for your engine. Also driving more efficiently improves mileage. It takes a good amount of gas to get 4,500 lbs or more going. Look as far down the road as you can, try to keep the vehicle moving, coast often rather than cruising longer before hitting the brakes harder, plus a lot of other different techniques.

On that same trip I averaged 16.5 mpg on the way up there. I was cruising at 80mph into a strong headwind so I'm happy with 16.5mpg in those conditions.

yeah i heard the jet one doesn't whistle like the poweraid one does. Some say it works, some say it doesn't. I have it in my car and i have noticed a difference.

Which do you have, the Jet or Poweraid? Does yours whistle?

Dave makes an awesome point (my father has always agreed with this also) By the time you factor in the savings on gas you are getting with the cost of the add-ons, it could sometimes take years to break even. I still install all those bolt ons for just something to do

I have the poweraid one. Yes it whistles ever so slightly. If you have the radio up you don't hear a thing, or if you have people in your car talking. I think it sounds cool.

I only notice the whistle when hititng about 2800-3000rpms. I agree it sounds cool when you stomp on the gas. :D

Will the poweraid and volant intake fit well together?
