OK..magnaflow & anti-freeze smell

I had the stock muffler replaced with the magnaflow 5X11X22.it sounds nice but I'm having a few issues.

#1 It feels like I might have lost some power....when launching hard in
first gear I get a big swoooshhh sound and the acceleration is not
there.

#2 After the install and I did not have this problem before hand....
I went out and got on the truck pretty hard to hear the sound
and when I got up to the red light I could smell anti-freeze.
Is there anyway a muffler could effect the cooling system and cause
anti-freeze to leak out somewhere....no spots under the truck.

I was thinking it could have been the welding smell you get after a exhaust is put on ...but this is clearly a anti-freeze smell. When the windows are up I don't get the smell in the truck only when there down and from the side where the muffler is...Through the passenger window.
The guy at the shop said he had to make an adapter pipe I'm figuring the muffler was shorter then stock.Could he have used anti-freeze as a lobe to get the pipes on each other before he welded.I don't know everytime I do something to the truck I regrete it......WTF:cry:

When I put a magnaflow on my 5.3L envoy, there was a smell for about 200 miles. I guess a combination of weld and whatever new that is in the muffler itself. I will go away.

Did you keep the OEM muffler in case you weren't satisfied with the magnaflow? Did you also keep the resonator on the truck?

I have also felt remorse after some mods. There have been many times that I have said no more mods, only to weaken and do it again. Remorse = penence?

No I didn't keep the old muffler.
1st I tried taking out the resonator.....then changed up the muffler...eveything has to be so chopped up by now.
I decided if I don't like the magnaflow...I will buy the whole stock system from GM or a aftermarket designed for it.

Let it burn in for a few days. It is hard to tell what the smell is. Exhaust always smell odd a few days afterwards, and your HP may improve after it breaks in too.

I agree, when I out a magnaflow on my GrandAM it took bout 100 or so miles to break in then the power went up, just give some time before you rip it off.

I drove home from work tonight and didn't have the smell anymore so thats a good sign.
Performance was better....I think last night was just to humid and the truck was running like $hit.
