View Full Version : My truck sets almost 2" lower on the right

I just noticed last night that the truck's stance is off. It sets 2" lower on the right side than it does on the left. I measure from the wheel well peak to the ground on each side as well as from the corner of the bumper on each side. Anyone know what's up? I only have 900 miles on it.

is it level when the engine is running? remember you've got airbags in the back. it was probably level when you stopped the engine before you got out of the car.

Like jimmy said check it with the engine running after the compressor stops running.

Mine is off by 3/4" (low on the right). The tech at the dealer said their spec is within 1" before they touch it.

Several people on this and other boards have had their dealers fix this for them. The tech pulled up a sheet from GM that indicated they do te offset so when a 185 driver sits in the truck it levels out. Mine does indeed level out when I'm in it.

The only problem is that if I have a fat chick in it with me, it still leans to the right.

Front cross-height should be within 24mm (0.9"). Rear cross-heights should be within: w/coil springs 12mm (0.5") - w/air suspension 8mm (0.3"). These measurements are made from points on the frame/suspension-to-the ground. Measurements from points on the body-to-the ground can in some instances, cause incorrect measurement readings. Correction for out of spec trim height conditions usually result in component replacement of some type.

I'll check it out while it's running when I get home. If it's still the same while it's running, then it's definitely past that 1" sepc that Chevy calls for. That idea that it is offset for a 185lb passenger is interesting, but I just can't see 185lbs making it tilt that far back to the left to level it out, but anything is possible I guess. Thanks for the help guys. I'll have an answer tonight.

With the ignition on or off, it still sets way too low on the right side. Looks like it's back to the dealer.....again. :(

Mine was off by approx 3/4 of an inch with the right side sitting low......I can understand if the back is uneven with the ignition off but the front should not be off by that much. Dealer replaced left front strut spring and it is still uneven

Just a thought / personal experience, are you sure the ground that you are measuring on is completely level... Where I park looks basically completely level and my truck has an uneven stance, so after reading some posts about people complaining, I started to get worried :confused: and a little bit Obsessive Compulsive about it... Then I remembered from a Hot Rod Mag article about aligning your own car that even slightly (undetectable to most people) uneven surfaces can cause a noticeable difference in the way your car will sit. So taking their advice (even though this wasn't an alignment issue) I went to my parents house where they actually have a garage. The poured concrete is a perfectly flat surface and its level too, and once I pulled my truck in and then re-checked, the problem disapeared.

You may already have tried this, but just thought I'd bring it up since you didn't really say where you were parked when you measured.

mine is also low on the right...so far nobody has complained about it being low on the left...interesting and kind of validates the driver theory...but I still don't buy it. Love the TBSS but the qc just isn't that great.

I measured mine on a hill, had a flat in the right rear and a cat was stuck under the left front tire.

Everything seemed fine. Less than a 1/8 offset.

I dug alittle deeper into this, as my rt side is 3/4" lower also on the right. Seems a recurring issue with everyone. When checked, the suspension is fine, the problem we are having is a 'trim' problem. And this is easily remedied by putting some shims/spacers inbetween the body on frame mounts, on the rt side. You can see these very easily when you look under the truck, on the outside edge of the frame rails.

The body shop will fix it next week. So I suggest everyone pursue this angle....and don't even begin to screw around with the suspension and/or airbags.

Count me in with the same appearance problem with right side being lower than the left. I just bought the AWD version (no 2WD's in Utah). From all appearances (motor on/motor off), it still remains about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch off on the right side. Funny thing about this is when I was selecting the TB SS from the dealer (they had 3 of them), I noticed that all 3 were sitting lower on the right side. My theory is that they deliberately set the suspension stiffer on the left side of the vehicle (as both the driver and gas tank sits on that side). I am not for shimming the body to bring up the height, but will give it a few months and see if the suspension settles to a more level state.

Same here but I adjusted both sides to lower it a bit and took out the rake look.
