View Full Version : Tire Pressure Sensor Warning

I have just over 3K miles on my TBSS. Today I was driving on the highway in heavy rain. It lighteded up and I sped up to 78 mph. The LF sensor chimed in with the warning of 26 psi (37 for the rest). I immediatly pulled over and checked the tire. I got out the hose and hooked up to the onboard pump. In the rain on the side of the road it appeared that the tire was fully inflated. I tried to add air and the guage immediatly read 36 or so. I stopped filling and checked the sensor. It read 37 psi. I had hardly put a pound into the tire if that. So I drove off feeling very apprehensive. Then a few miles down the road the RF sensor showed 31 psi. I checked it and it seemed the same. I again drove off feeling (not so good).
After a few dry miles, the pressures seemed to level off.
I was not happy at all. I will have to talk to the dealer tomorrow.
Any thoughts?

Never had any problems with mine.
This thread seems mysteriously familiar, though. :undecided

The electronic tire pressure gauge that was on the one I test drove was coming up with an oddly low pressure on one of the tires too. I am making sure it's checked before I pick it up tomorrow.

I'm pushing 2500 miles. Mine lit up RF zero psi. I pulled over, slightly freaked about wrecking the rim on a flat. Shut down, got out, looked fine to me. Got in, turned on, now it says 36 LOW. Couldn't convince it that 36 LF and RF have always been fine. Must've set a code. So I aired up both to 38, and then the error went away. (BTW, the stock front tires handle better at 38 than 36, worth the effort) 2 days later, I noticed a check engine light.
That's when I found a strange dongle adapter hanging from my OBD port under the dash (round connector adaptor, obviously left there by the dealership when they flashed the driver seat module for the recall. Anybody wanna buy it? I don't predict I'll be buying the $20k snap-on that it goes to any time soon.
Fired up HP Tuners and found a data bus collision DTC, unknown time and date. Possibly related to pressure sensor glitch?
I cleared the data bus collision DTC's and they didn't come back either.
Same weekend I noticed the morons at the car wash detailer removed my antenna and screwed it back on to the wrong bolt in the cowl about the same time all my radio stations went away.
Sure did feel like a Microsoft weekend. When does chevy release Service Pack 1 for the TBSS? Good news is my Helm manuals are on the way. It only took them 5 full months to release the 06's.

mine comes on all the time too. i've checked the pressure several times and it's always the same on all 4 tires. i asked another SS owner if he was having a problem and he said no. guess next time im around the dealer i'll ask them if they know how to shut it up.

Hey, my light just went on today also. Looked, nothing and then it went away by itself.
Okay, who's messing with OnStar? :p

You might try this:
Pull out your manual and go through the procedure to "reset" the pressure sensors. It's plainly written, easy to do...when I had my tires rotated at 10,000 on the SS, the dealer (yeah, I know, but the rotation was a freebie) said he had a "special tool" to do the reset. Two miles from the dealer, I got a low pressure warning on the RF for 15 psi. Pulled over and checked it, had 34 psi in that tire.
Anyway, when I got home, I ran through the procedure, and haven't had a warning again.
Let us know if it works.

I have 10K on my car and the low tire preasure light just started coming on. Check the tire preasure and everything is fine. What's the deal? Do I need to take it into the dealer?

Only happened that one time to me in the rain.
If it keeps up, reset the system like the above post says. I haven't read that in the book. If you still have the problem, dealer it.

Be sure to check the spare too. Not sure of the TB has a sensor in the spare, but I know my wife's 4Runner does and we had this same problem

No sensor in the SS's spare.

Mine came on last night, and I was wondering what the light in the dash was that looked like an ass. Then I found a huge screw in my back tire.

Ditto. Mine came on when it developed a slow leak. Screw in tread.

Mine comes on once in a while. It's always the RF.

Funny you say that. The RF tire on mine is always reading low on the DIC but not on a tire pressure gauge. Perhaps there is something to that.

Exact same thing is going on. must be a fault in the electronics somewhere

While usually very acurate, I had a problem with one of mine on another car, not TB. The dealership reset it and so far no more problems.
I had the LF go flat twice in the first week I owned my TBSS form the sensor! It leaked....I've had the phantom flat tire twice driving down the road when the sensor says low but there are no low pressures! The dealer is "working on it"....

Sat morning I was raining big time. I was about to get on I-95 when the Tire Pressure Warning Light lit-up. RR was reporting 26# LR 27# both front 28. I pulled over and quickly checked the tires w/o any guage.(i was very late) A couple hours later after the rain stopped all tires were at 29 or >. Today has been dry and a bit warmer; the pressure senors indicated at 30#s. Was this a rain problem, a faulty indicator?? Also, what should I keep the tires at??

I haven't had the tire pressure problem yet Haven't made it to the first oil change yet. But salesdude said that as a rule of thumb, rotate them tars every 2 oil changes.

Increased and decreased in temp and moisture can alter the pressure in the tires. So, yes, the rain could have had an affect. I believe that 31-33 is a good place for tire pressure in the fall and spring due to constant flucations.

same thing happened to me, driving on freeway, pressure light came on. It said that the RF had 0 psi, pulled over, tire was fine, then light went off 10 minutes later....must be a software glitch
MIne are always with 1 pound of each other and 1 pund of a guage. Mine went off once and it was true I had a nail in my tire!
Plugged it and still works great.
Might want to have it replaced if it keeps doing it.

mine are fine but they do read a little off. I have a digital guage that reads to the tenth. all of my tires are exactly the same and the TPM says that they are off by 1-2 psi
I get a RR about every 5 or 6 days. I just add air and haven't checked with a regular gauge to compare. If it is really a small leak in tire, do ya'll think some stop leak stuff like Slime or something would mess up the sensors?

That stuff will destroy your sensors. There is a problem with a lot of the valve stems being defective. I have one on my truck that needs to be replaced. Leaks small amounts of air.

Thanks for the info Liquiddi.

My warning was on this morning (first day below freezing) for the few miles I drove. All the tires looked good, I have an LS so it will not tell me which tire caused the problem.

It's time to fill up with nitrogen. The pressure never changes.
Had mine done a year ago (after a cold night in Northwest Indiana)
and only one tire needed one half pound. Then when the alarm goes
off you know it's a leak.

Mines been coming on all this week, but after driving a couple of miles it goes off. It must be the weather, pretty cold here in chicago.

I have had nothing but trouble with mine.
A few of my customers have also had problems and these are all brand new TBSS.

I just got back from Belle Tire for a persistent leak. It turns out one of the seals was ripped in the sensor. They had rebuild kits there, so they took care of it. Mine came from the factory like that. Also, it didn't leak all the time. Sometimes it would go a week, and sometimes just a day or so. It was pretty wierd.
He also told me that the 07's switched to a different sending unit that doesn't bolt in like the 06 version, and is much less prone to leaking. So if you have an 07, you are much better off.

I rotated my tires a month or so ago, and then did the procedure to re-learn the sensor locations. I went thru it a couple times and it just couldn't pick up the LR sensor. Took it to the dealer and they tried their special tool, and couldn't get that one to work either, so they replaced the one sensor. Other than that I haven't had any problems before or since, but I'll definitely keep an eye out.

My sensor was going off for all 4 tires a week or so ago. Before they wer at 35psi and then it said 26-27psi on all four corners. But, as the weather has cooled off you lose pressure, then as you drive and the tire heats up it builds pressure. I cranked in 40psi of air pressure and its a better ride, gets better gas mileage, and hooks better. :D
