Still going through everything, but looking to see if anyone has had their rear wiper up and quit on them. The only thing I can think of is yesterday I put the Battery on a 2A charge for a bit. Shouldn't be the cause of the problem but it hasn't worked since yesterday either.
Too funny! Mine just went out 2 days ago! I haven't had a chance to look into it... but I am thinking fuse... same day my radio decided to reset the time (but stations and settings stayed the same) . I haven't done anything electrically new to my car so I have no idea why it would be doing this... Maybe moisture?? It has been raining a lot lately.
Well its been very cold here. I checked all the fuses then swaped the rear wiper relay with the fog light relay and it works. But so do the fog lights. Its either the cold or an electrical gremlin.
In any case, problem solved, for now....
hey guy, just thought i'd add my 2 cents - seeing as you and i share the same type of weather i'd thought i'd let you know about how everytime i wash my truck and go out in the cold my rear wiper won't work - it freezes up in fact. when it warms up - no problem. my buddy at a local dealer told me that it is designed not to work if there is any type of resistance. so that the arm won't break. just thought i'd share a story.
hi, most likely when u charged ur battery u reset ur rear gate madule (crappy electrical engineering) anyhow it happened when i replaced my battery, remote not working and rear wiper not working, any how way i fixed it was to unhook the battery and let it sit over night then reattach and let the engine run or drive for half an hour, don;t turn on ur rear wiper or use ur remote during this half hour. it should work after that.
Ok... so yesterday I checked the fuses with a voltmeter and they are "fine"... Disconnected the battery for awhile... connected the battery and waited awhile and tried my rear windshield wiper... still didn't work... the windshield wiper fluid sprayer works though... so, could it be the rear windshield wiper motor or the switch?
saw how old this thread was, mine stopped working as well, spent 40 mins looking at the wires in the rubber boot on the hinge.....all looked good...did anyone ever figure out what the problem was?
Mine started dying a slow death last year, it would make one swipe, then stop. Finally it didn't have any movement. I also couldn't find the issue. I took a chance and ordered the motor. That fixed it.
The rear wiper went on my 2009 this winter at 58000km. It was the motor according to the dealer but then again I never saw it and it was replaced under the bumper to bumper. I really suspect it was only the switch because they changed that to.
G.:m2:
Ha! It's hilarious (and by hilarious I mean sad, of course) that so many people suffer the same issues. My rear wiper packed it in last winter and I've decided to take a stand against its sloth-like ways and replace the motor. Is it a dealer only part or is there a generic version? Anyone know how much?
Thanks!
I've never done it, but rockauto.com will usually list all the possible aftermarket possibilities along with the AC Delco OEM alternative if they're available. I'd recommend Ebay, though, if you're looking for low cost.
I never heard of anything but the Tech II being able to handle it. GM's customer-UNFRIENDLY way of making sure the dealer's kids get fed even if we're not buying new cars. The $150 is a total ripoff, of course, for ten minutes work. I'd find an independent GM specialist who should also have invested in a Tech II, and who might charge a fair price for the work. Call around. I'm lucky enough to have such a shop ten minutes from my house.
I am in my second liftgate control module. My second one gave out a year and a half ago. My rear wiper and washer do not work. I checked the wires at the hinge and they are good. I am thinking I have another bad module. A new LCM is a hundred bucks locally. Is there another way to program it other than a tech II. The dealer wants $150.00 to program it.
Hmmm...liftgate control module eh? Is the rear wiper not working the main symptom of this module malfunctioning? I mean if I order one and replace it (does anyone have a how-to for this?) my wiper and sprayer should work barring any broken wires anywhere?
The LCM is easy to replace. Take off the trim on the liftgate. The module is held in with three 10 MM bolts and several connectors. The problem is getting the LCM programmed. It will not work unless is is programmed by a TECH II.
Does the LCM have to be installed first or can I take it in loose and have it programmed? And does anyone know if the LCM has any effect on the rear window defroster? Roughly have of the bloody thing works, that coupled with the lack of working wiper makes Scott angry.
I have the same problem. The defogger works but the wiper does not. I would assume the LCM has to be programmed in the vehicle so it can communicate with the other control modules
So I noticed that it has almost been a year since the last reply, I still haven't had any luck with the rear wiper, the defroster works as well as the window washer fluid, but the arm is a no go. I tried replacing the main fuze under the rear drivers side seat and nothing with that. I'm hoping it's just bad wiring in the gate, I can't see spending a ton of money on a LCM......
Check for broken wire in or just beyond the boot where the wires enter the TB. Up and down of tailgate tends to break the wires over time. Look hard and maybe a little tug as the insulation may not be broken but wire inside may be. Happened to me...
I have checked the wires several times. Thats not to say they are broken now. On a side note, the wiper started working again. That does sound like a broken wire. Ill see what i can find out.
Update: I took the TB back to the dealer. The part is still under warranty. The tech found corrosion on the connector at the BCM. He cleaned the terminal and the rear wiper works as advertised.
He must have meant the lift gate control module and not the BCM. If it was at the BCM you would have had a large number of other electrical problems if there was corrosion there.
The rear wiper on my TB is not working. I checked all wiring and I am getting 12V to the motor. I have a couple of questions; the orange wire at the motor is the hot wire and the black wire is ground...what is the green wire? Also, does the motor need to be mounted in place to be properly grounded so that it will operate? I got one from the junkyard to test by just plugging it in but I could not mount it (and it did not work).
Hi All,
I am new here as I just purchased a 2006 Trailblazer LT in excellent condition. We bought it for towing a small camper and I have fallen in love with it. Rides great, handles great and is a solid and quiet vehicle....only wish I had gotten one sooner. There is only one thing that is driving me nuts and I can't seem to track it down. The rear wiper works sometimes! The first time I tried to turn it on there was power as the arm moved about 1/2 an inch and stopped. I replaced the motor which was bound up and when I went to turn it on it would not work. When I pulled out the 15 amp Circuit breaker/fuse under the rear seat (with the power on and wiper switch on) and then put it back in the motor started working. But, when I turn off the vehicle and it sits for a while the motor will not run unless I remove and replace the breaker again. It will however work if I shut off and restart right away. I have tried replacing the breaker/fuse to no avail. I am hoping that someone else has had this or a similar problem and can offer some advice.
