4.2L slow cranking

Thanks for the great forum and priceless info. I have searched and read most of the threads related to slow cranking. My 2006 TB EXT LS is cranking slow lately. I have a 75 month napa battery that's 3 years old. The starter is original w/ 98k on it. I removed and cleaned the pos and neg connections on the battery. The ground battery cable to the body is .1 ohms. The battery reads 12.6 volts, and drops to 10 volts during cranking. My question is, is there a known problem with Chevy starters on the 4.2? My next step is to get the battery load tested I guess.
Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Starter is one of the few things I havent heard of people having a lot of issues with . I would get the battery load tested specially if its suddenly gotten colder where you are. How many CCA's is it rated for ?

Problem resolved. Starter finally gave out. Load tested battery - checked good. Replaced starter - all is well.

Sorry to respond after you fixed it, but the slow cranking is exactly what mine did before the starter died completely. It was sort of funny how it went though, it was fine, then all of then overnight it was slow for a week or so, and just before I ordered a new one, I got stranded. No hard starts/no starts, just seemed to take longer than normal to turn over. Someone who didnt drive the blazer everyday most likely wouldn't know it. Fortunately it wasnt far from the house. But anyone with a slow crank and decent battery needs to swap the starter. I had about 140k on mine when it died. Or at least pull the starter and get it tested. Mine didnt want to spin even on a test stand. Just plain dead. Solenoid was good and would "click".

Your symptoms were exactly like mine, although my original starter only made it 90k....but wife puts alot of cycles on it every day

Glad you got it fixed, Just solved same problem with a friend had 167K on orig starter

My 04 LS 4.2 makes a noise when starting in cold weather (below 40F or so). It sounds like the starter isn't engaging completely. When the weather is warmer or the engine is warmed up it starts fine. I notice when I first turn the key on (before cranking) on a cold morning the volts are around 10.5 which I thought was kinda low. And after starting it runs at 14 plus for a while which makes me suspect the battery since the starter noise only happens when it's cold outside after the truck has been sitting overnight. I believe the battery is fairly new but haven't checked it since I purchased the truck used. Thoughts, please?
