Thinking about buying:

Hi guys! I just signed up for the forum, and I was thinking about buying a 2008 GNC Envoy SLE for college since my truck is not reliable enough to take me long distances. I don't know much about these cars, so I was hoping you guys could help me. Like I said, it is a 2008 GMC Envoy SLE with 57,000 miles on it. It is white, and they are asking $15,900 for it. If there are any problem areas I should look for when test driving this vehicle, I would like to know about them in advance. Thanks guys!

What's up and welcome to TrailVoy! I'm just a few years older than you and bought my 2008 GMC Envoy SLE-2 (just a bit different trim and extras package) last August and overall I am happy with the vehicle. I purchased it with 83,000 miles and paid around $12,500 before taxes in Indiana.

Like any vehicle it will have its repair issues. Just under a month after purchasing mine I had the Service Stabilitrak light come on. A few sensors including the steering wheel position sensor and atleast 1 wheel sensor were affected, costing almost $900 at the stealership to fix. If you read a few threads about "Service Stabilitrak" you'll realize this issue doesn't pop-up on every ignition, but I was covered under a type of partial warranty program at the dealer I purchased it from so I opted to have the issue repaired. It cost me around $450 but I haven't seen the light come on again and Stabilitrak has engaged a few times since this winter.

The only other issue I've had has been that my driver side window has recently gone funky. It has always been slow to roll down compared to the other 3 windows, but now it sometimes doesn't want to roll up maybe 10% of the time. This sucks in these frosty Indiana winters.

It also eats gas through my normal commute. I get maybe 12 MPG city tops driving 3 miles to and from work 5 days a week. This may just be the winter gas blend though. It's much, much better MPG-wise going longer distances on the highway. But if you're hauling around some friends you're going to want it to be roomy, and this vehicle delivers that plus more at an acceptable MPG.

Overall I am very satisfied with the vehicle and its reliability. My family and friends have had GM products for years still going strong which is a big reason I purchased my Envoy. I only wish I had opted for the XL (extended cab) version because I attend a boatload of music festivals and camp quite a bit outside of that.

You'll love the vehicle except for the gas mileage running around town. These are honestly my only real gripes with the vehicle! If I could I'd buy another in a heart-beat! I really like the silver color I have, and I love the slick white you're peeping! It's a nice ride.
