What was the letter that was before the number, go here, if you type in 1481 in with different letters in front of the number you get different difinitions. If you use p1481 you get the "Fan secondary low with high fan on", if you use b1481 you get "Wiper Washer Fluid Level Sensor Circuit Short To Battery" and if you use c1481 you get "Right Front Wheel Brake Pressure Control Plausibility Failure".

Sounds like your fan clutch is on it's way out. P1*** codes are typically manufacturer specific. Our POS electro/mechanical fan clutches are specific to this truck, so it's got it own code.

2005 Trailblazer LS 4x4, summit white. Adds: Ventshades and LOTS of extra adhesive added for durabilty.

P1484 troubles

My wife has a 2002 Envoy 4.2L 77K miles. about 6 months ago the water pump went out, so I installed a new one. about a month ago we get the "Check Engine" light and "Reduced Power" Light. The fan was staying engauged all the time. I found a suposedly Genuine GM fan clutch and sensor on the internet and I put it on. Cleared the codes and you guessed it after abput a month the light came on again with the same P1484 code. Acording to my Chiltons repair manual that code means "Cooling Fan RPM Error" I don't have overheating problems and the clutch seems to be working OK. The fan does not rub the shroud anywhere that i can tell. I hate the thought of plunking down $370 at the dealer if there is something else I can check out. Any ideas? Thanks

The PCM will set P1481 if it detects a loss of the cooling fan speed signal for more than 11 seconds. It will then command the fan clutch to 100%, and will light the MIL if the signal fails during a second consecutive ignition cycle.

There are three circuits between the PCM and the fan which support the cooling fan speed signal:

DESC.; COLOR; Pin at FAN; PCM; C105
5v REF; GRY; E; WHT-60; A
Signal; DK BLU; D; BLU-43; B

C105 is the 10-way I/P-to-Forward lamp harness inline connection, located near the underhood fuse block.

My code is 1484

Thanks for the info. I disconected the plug by the fan and checked the grey wires for 5V and continuity to ground. They checked oK. I also checked the wires for loose connections. everything checks out. I really don't know what to do next.
