Welcome! Why would you be SOL if you have this issue? Notify GM with your VIN and find out!

From everything I have seen it looks like GM will only cover certain states. But I will give them a call.

You have nothing to loose, just call them and see what they say.
Good Luck!

Hello Trailvoy members, this is my first reply to a thread. Just joined today. We have a 2002 Trailblazer since new. Last Oct we got a letter from GM on the bulletin covering the fuel pump corrosion. Truck has spent its whole time in upstate NY, a corrosion prone area for sure. Dealer said it wasn't leaking last Oct and therefore not covered by the bulletin. They didn't pull the tank or do a real visual, just sniffed around the area and used a mirror. This at 117,000 miles. Now the gas started leaking out suddenly, and at 125,000 miles it is most definitely not covered by the bulletin! It was corroding away at 117,000 miles and just broke through and started leaking for real last week. I went round and round with GM(I suspect the actual office is in Spain, as one of the staffers told me that). Hola! So we are stuck for the bill. So make your case before it gets to 120,000, at least that is my experience.

I have been getting the P0442 for the last 8 months or so. I live in Washington State, which is not on their list. I am working with Buick at this time to try to get this covered. I will be filing with NHTSA asking to be included, you should do that same.
We used the Rainier for ski trips to Canada a lot on very bad winter roads. Put it on a host yesterday and it shows a lot of rust on the underside. Did not know at the time to try and look at the fuel module with a mirror on top of the tank. Will be doing that, and trying to get a picture.
If you read the EA07-009 the NHTSA says the problem "occurrence which largely arises in salt belt states. GM has extended the warranty on the subject component to ten years or 120,000 miles." It does not say warranty was extend in "just" those states, and it does NOT say "occurrence which only arises in salt belt states" It say LARGELY not ONLY! Buick CS rep says I did not get the letter because I am not in one of those states.
I just called the NHTSA and filed my complaint.

Buick Customer Service called back again this morning and I had the lady read the EA07009 document, but they still say that they will not issue the letter to me. They want me to take it to the dealer and pay for them to look at it, then they will talk to me about it. I say I want the letter in hand when I go in.
I am going to write a letter to Buick with a copy of the EA07009 document and ask for an extended warranty letter. They are hiding behind this salt belt state thing.
I will go get the NAPA module and install it myself for 165 dollars before I risk hundreds of dollars with Buick's service department with the gamble that they "may" cover me after the fact.

I have an 02 envoy, and assuming since I have 160k miles and live in the south, tank/pump replacement is not an option for me. Would anyone even debate this?

Well, I have the Rainie up on blocks and have been climbing around under it with a light and mirror. It appears that our Feb 2004 build does not have the same tank as the earlier ones that rusted out the fuel module. Guess I will go to NAPA and see if they have a picture of "things" under there. There are a three hoses that go to a black plastic box above the spare tire. I couple appear to be high point vents. Everything on the top of the tank appears to be plastic bungs and fittings. So why am I getting the P0442 code????

P0442 Small evap leak
OK, had a nice little talk with the service guy at my Buick Dealer. He gave me drawings of the Evaporative Emissions Hose Routing Diagram and Fuel Controls - EVAP Controls Electrical.
Asked him his best guess as to my P0442 error code and he said EVAP Canister Vent Solenoid Valve, number 6 on the drawing.
Looked this up on NAPAONLINE, and it is $27.49 and I said to self, I saw that mounted just behind the fuel tank.
Part
So I took it off (requires releasing the U shaped lock on the slip on connector on the hose) and lifting the center metal tab on the bracket, and did a vacuum leak down test after appling 12V to the solenoid and it was leaking slowly. I separated the solenoid body from the filter body by lifting a little tab and turning the solenoid a quarter turn.
I sprayed WD40 in it while cycling the valve on my 12V power supply. I then washed it out in my diesel bucket and blew it dry. I repeated the vacuum leak down and it was holding vacuum fine.
Reinstalled it on the Rainie, will keep you informed as to if the P0442 error returns. I think I will put the original fuel cap back on, as it goes on and comes off easier, and it has a retainer strap. On edit: If I could just find what I did with the OEM fuel cap, then I would install it again. Thought it was on the stand with my hydraulic press, but it grew legs!
Enjoy

I think I fixed it. The error code has not returned. See post above. Chris
