2005 Trailblazer Transmission fluid change question
Hi All, I have a 2005 4WD Trailblazer with the I-6 4200 engine and I want to change the transmission fluid in it. It's not super dirty and the trans shifts fine, but I but it with 140,000 miles on it, so it's time to change the fluids out since I don't know the service history.
Main question is if you can drop the transmission pan without removing the bracket on the side of the transmission case for the shift cable? I can get to the rear bolt on the bracket and it moves a little bit until it hits the driveshaft for the front axle. It looks like I can get the pan bolts out without any problems, but will that bracket cause problems removing and replacing the pan. The manual I have says to remove the bracket, but it's easier said than done, so has anyone done this without removing the bracket?
Also, when it comes to the transmission fluid, the owner's manual calls for Dextron III while the parts store and the filter manufactures call for Dextron VI. I know you can mix the 2 types, but what are your opinions on the fluid?
I wasn't going to do a flush, just drop the pan and change the filter this time around.
Thanks in advance!
